Cheap pickguard material?

Here’s the deal…..I am looking to buy some pickguard material but I guess I am too cheep to pay the price that stewmac is asking (13 + 5.50 shipping). All it really is is a sheet of plastic (pvc). I just want black or white, nothing fancy. So anyone have and secrets/ideas of where to acquire some sheets of plastic (or maybe some other substitute) that will work for pickguards?

Or you can grab a permanent marker and just draw one, you can also grow some mean mustache at the same time.

Try this -

Hardware store, thin white plexi glass or the white plastic used for fluorescent light fixture covers....

Go to local cabinet shop and get some formicas or other laminates. Gloss white, flat white, gloss black, flat black lot's of choices. There are some 1/16 inch thick types of laminates (called "color core") that are many different patterns. These tend to be more brittle than plexi or regular pickhguard material, but once in place, they do the job well. (Be sure not to over tighten the screws when you mount these types.)

There are metal laminates too, brushed aluminum, chrome, brass etc...and about 2 thousand other colors/patterns to choose from.

You can also cement two pieces together and then cut them out. You may even want them to do it for you to your template as unless you are used to cutting/shaping the stuff you will wreck a lot and maybe cut your playing hand fairly easily...

Also, two real thin pieces of clear plexi glass, cut to shape and drilled can be used to put all manner of interesting things between them for a cool pattern..foils, pictures etc... This is a good way to do a pickguard if you have an artist (or you are artistic) do some custom work for your pickguard and it won't wear off.

Ive made a couple out of sheet aluminum, polish it up and youll hear nothing but oooohhhs and ahhhhhhs!
