Cheap Trick on Austin City Limits . . .

I thought Cheap Trick killed too. I was left waiting for more!
TP's sound on 12 string is massive but check him out on their Sgt. Peppers DVD with a Vintage single pickup T-bird going into Hiwatts....wow! amazing sound.

While still one of my favorite singers, IMO Robin's voice has been on the decline over the past few years. These days his tone is rougher than it used to be and he's singing noticeably flat on a lot of the higher-range material, whereas he used to be very true and strong throughout. Take "Way of the World" for example... he powerfully hit the high notes at the beginning and was pretty flat after that. Maybe not enough breath to support the notes?

As for Tom, I found him somewhat buried in the mix. His 12-string tone varies a bit. When it is happening, it is a force to be reckoned with!

Tom's 12-string is more up front in this recording:

Note: the bit at the intro is 12-string bass not guitar. The whole 1980 R.I. show sounds great!

Robin's seen 3-4 decades of heavy cigarette smoking. It would be amazing if his voice was still as strong as 1980!
