Cheapest/easiest way to get Taurus sounds?

Out of curiosity, Is there a synth/midi site out there comparable to talkbass? I tried the all mighty Google and all that really brought up was midi files.

What you have pictured IS a standalone synth.

They also sell a midi model which is just a footcontroller for other synthesizers.

Lastly, they also sell just the midi board kit which allows you to build your own.

Jason was talking about the latter of the three....

They replied my first email where I asked about using Basyn with 220V. However when I asked them if they have Basyns in stock or are the made by order I haven't received any reply at all. I've sent them three emails so far with no reply.

Aw, sorry I guess I wasn't clear....

Basyn offers either the full thing (see above) or just the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Then you just wire it up to any kind of normally open momentary switches and away you go.

I do have to say though, the connector they provide with the circuit board is total garbage...I'm having a heck of a time keeping the wires where they need to be. If they offered a ribbon cable or something that you could solder to the switches but gave you a solid contact on the board side, all would be well.

Also the enclosure I went with isn't the greatest, and the buttons are only OK. I'd probably recommend either using an older wood organ foot pedal assembly, or going with the prebuilt Basyn midi controller unless you're pretty confident in your skills.

I've used the PK-5 together with a Roland SH-32 synth for a few years, and that has worked ok. The SH-32 is cheap, easy to edit and sounds allright.

Now though I've switched to a Novation Basstation as sound generator. It's an old little bugger of a synth long out of production, but it's true analog - non of that Virtual Analog modern crap ;-) - mad easy to edit, packs some serious ooomph in the bottom register and you can get used ones dirt cheap.

Both the MicroKorg and Ion sounds allright and are way more versatile, but if you're looing for a monophonic synth for fake-Taurus use I can heartily recommend the Basstation, that imho sounds way more solid in the bottom than those two VA-synths.

If you want to go all-out Geddy with simultaneous bass pedal + keyboard use an Ion might be a cheap and good enough sounding alternative.

If you don't need a keyboard you might want to look at the new Waldorf Blofeld. I've never tried it out myself, but the spec:s and online soundclips sounds impressive, and it's very affordable.

A used Waldorf Pulse might also be a good cheap non-keyboard fake-Taurus choice if you don't mind another unit in you rack.
