CheapJ bass pickups.

Beat to death topic but I've ordered several brands.I tried to order Dimarzio ultra jazz(love them except for stunned fitment into j bodies) and some Barts over the covid times with no luck.Backordered or no stock.I have had Nordies,Duncan,Fender but lately Im cheap.And the pricing now is absurd.So onto the cheap in stock..Dopro,Kaish,Wilkinson and others.All sounding bland to me with one Dopro arriving doa.You cannot trust all reviews.
The Wilkinson Vari Gauss had no top end and muted.Non of them sound great so I'm trying just 2 more brands.I just ordered OriPure J set and they come in a couple days.They look promising but could not find reviews. Wax potted,alnico and cloth covered wires.And soon will order Epic J's.The tamer vintage version.
Anyone have these 2 brands in your basses?

I been use Donlis P pickups which sound like P vibe should, i believe their Alnico V J set has same quality in tone too.

I also has great experience on both Tonerider TRP1 and TRJ 1 pickups too. But TRJ1 set price are twice to Donlis J set.

I order a Wilkinson WPB couple day ago before your today post.

I found that Ori pure J set pickup output are weird compare to Donlis.

Specifications:

• Resistance: Neck 8.1K; Bridge 7.6K. Neck 3.5H; Bridge 3.3H.

On Donlis J set -
Neck : 7.2K 3.0H
Bridge : 7.6K 3.2H

Bridge pup usually has little more output than Neck pup.

Oripure states a variation on readings due to ambient temp,humidity.
Of the several other sets I've tested there were a couple with odd numbers.
But it all comes down to the sound,balance and tone.Ive also installed a Ming 2 band pre and must say it does work well.I bought 2 and installed one into a new Squier 5 string jazz They have do have decent ceramic pickups in the newer Squiers.man did it kill!
Very impressed so I'll see how the oripure sounds.They are alnico.These going into a mim jazz 4 string

I ordered these for a parts bass I gave to a buddy:

They sounded pretty harsh at first, I thought I wasted $45.
But then I “radiused” the pole pieces by pushing the outer magnets (E &G) down to the covers, and the A and D half way.

This improved the tone so much, and smoothed the harshness right out. They sounded so good, I kind of felt bad about just giving the bass away…

Interesting.Im thinking many of these Chinese pickups are made in the same place and just labeled with different brand names.The descriptions are basically identical with the same specs.Some are okay and some are not but the pricing is acceptable. I do prefer U.S made but now they've priced themselves out of reach for most.
$250 to $400 plus is ridiculous.And some are only so so sounding.Ive talked to others who were really disappointed in their big dollar pickups and they sit on marketplace forever, still priced steep to regain some cash.There are sets priced well above that as well. That buys a really nice used bass.
We've all seen what it takes to produce these parts and materials are no way that expensive.Post covid pricing on anything now is insane.Anyways hope these Oripure efforts sound decent and I'll stop my search for a while

Oh Sorry .forgot to mention.we are up in Canada.I did inquire Wilde pickups.Believe they list at $80 each with shipping.
That converted to our pathetic dollar makes them also pricey

i hear machine -wound j pickups cost less than $10 USD to make anymore. That just blows me away. Cant imagine great sonic differences amongst the cheapest, but i'm tuned in to your thread , curious and 'all ears' !

I've used Tone Emporium pickups on a few basses with great results. Excellent vintage-style pickups, reasonably priced, and the retailer is located in Canada. They have a 20% off sale right now too.

I did receive the neck pickup from Oripure.It comes in a nice box with a printout, lots of hardware and rubber foam.Very well made with vintage cloth covered thick wire.
Vintage wound alnico..So with the neck installed and stock bridge pickup it was immediately noticeable.You may have to trim pickguard as its a hair bigger than Fender.Warm deep P bass like tone.Very smooth and detailed.Balanced well with bridge.
Bridge pickup comes this weekend.ill will post pics and review.I will say this neck pickup is hands down the best of the lot.

So ,received the bridge pickup today and so glad I found these gems.
It does now sound like a 60s jazz bass.These are nice pickups and the quality is excellent.Especially for price
I recommend OriPure pickups.

But that's going to be true of any pickup, or anything else for that matter, that you buy from the United States.

Using EMG passives for years, but the fretless PJ has twin blade demarzzio and an Ultra Jazz, CTS pots, switchcrafters etc... the jazz has a set of EMG J52's HZ the P has the P A5 HZ. I think "Geezers" are overpriced IMHO and not seeing the advantage with the hype, so I've never bothered with them.
I use active EMG DC45 snd the EMG BQS (18v) in the 6string. The Godin PJ has Godin stock Ceramics which are rather benign but clean nonetheless.

A friend has a Warwick 5 with Aguilars into an Aguilar rig that sounds really good.

I dig the EMG quick connects. I also shield when appropriate.

Oripure jazz bass pickups are a real sleeper.These are friggin awsome.
After 2 days of playing I really cannot find a single flaw.Great tone
This posting was about finding a response to the Oripure pickups and many replies were nothing to do with my request.Turns out these.are really decent pickups that was priced well under $100.
They do also make a P bass set.Im sure those are also oustanding
