Open mic night + our set. Tongiht, 8.30.

My guitarist/Vocalist runs an open mic night at the Old Post Office weekley. I Give him a hand with the desk and he introduces the act's. We play our 45min set, and jam out till 1.30 in the morning. Starts at 8.30 =)

Friday was a fundraiser for a private school at the Nassau Museum of Art. Lovely property and a nice mansion. When we got there, the woman who was organizing the event was going over the schedule for the night and said "at 8PM we want to move everyone into the tent for a video presentation and an auction. You guys will take a break and eat your dinner". Sure enough at 8, they stop the music and the woman says to the crowd " You all have to move to the tent because the band has to eat their dinner." Needless to say we were never given any food. But it was cool to play in a room, surrounded by Andy Warhohl lithographs.

Played a small dive bar Friday night. Had fun, but with the warmer weather and no smoking in the bar, people gradually moved to the outdoor patio where they could smoke, leaving the bar almost empty by the fourth set. :(

It seems lately we have been having more gigs with less people getting into the music/dancing. Makes load out and drive home a little depressing... :(

But there's always the next gig, and "gig hope" is always there! :)

Well, the gig went okay - not great, but we got through it. People danced, had a good time, drank a lot, and we got paid. We were pleased to find that Jackson's Bar And Grill is a nice, comfortable decent-sized locals bar. In addition to our own draw of about 30 family and friends, there was an additional 20-30 bar patrons who hung around for our show.

With the exception of our singer who didn't come out until the day of the show, we were all feeling the ill effects of a heavy night of Vegas partying the night before, but none so much as our lead guitar player. I was truly worried that he was going to collapse, but he's a trooper and a total showman, so as long as he was playing he was fine. The breaks between sets were a little sketchy, however. As I had predicted, our singer struggled a few times with remembering lyrics, but funmbled through the set without a total train-wreck. My own playing wasn't particularly sharp, but my few mis-steps were recovered from quickly.

We got 25% of the bar for the time we were playing, which the owner of the place rounded up to $250 to make it an easy 5-way split. He was happy and invited us to come back again.

Lesson learned: Party after the gig, not before. ;)

*Finally* got my 3.5 month old to sleep and now getting ready for my show tonight at the Rock-it-Room in SF. My band's closing so I have a little time. I think it'll go okay, but we haven't all practiced together in a while and we just added some new tunes. I'll need to use a cheat sheet, but will try not to stare.

Most fun gig I've had in a while. Great crowd and lots of joking around on stage. Everyone had a couple of flubs but nothing serious. Played through the house rig (Genz Benz something into a GB 6x10) and thought it sounded great.

just done a gig at a new place and we were hot.no gaffs as well, the band was in the right zone for playing.the down side is.....the place wasn't full,it was a freebie(we're a new band)and need all the gigs we can get and we got no more gigs. ;-( had to cancel a gig because the place had an awful atmosphere and there was to many 20 verses 20 fights.wondering where the next gig is coming from?these 'talent shows' and the recession is killing live music. will soldier on. ;-)

A gig with the country band, today is the first carnival of our summer season. The "Manure Tour", as the drummer likes to call it. :D We'll be in Boonsboro MD, where they have a nice big stage and a sound company, so we won't need our PA. It's one of the bigger carnivals, and they have lots of food options. I love carnival food. Corn dogs FTW!!!

I hope we can avoid rain and band arguments, both of which we've had at this venue in the past.

I hope all the Boons will come out! Daniel Boon, Pat Boon, D.Boon from that one punk band, T.Boon Pickens, Freddie "Boon Boon" Cannon... :D:D
