I usually judge the quality of music by how many times I would like to hear the song again and how many years the desire remains to hear the song again.

For this particular song, I turned it off half way through and made a promise to myself to try my best to avoid this song for the remainder of my years on this planet.

This is what I was trying to say earlier. I won't dismiss his skills because I don't dig the music. I guarantee you that if I had his skills I could apply it to music that better suited my interests.

It's remind me Return to Forever (Romantic Warrior), he's the Al Dimeola of bass and in that sense it's not metal but instead it's jazz prog. Great skills!

i prefer the more melodic tapping he does (reminds me of JAE on life after love and some others) but i do love a little J metal every now and then.

he's a great player and yeah he does the job really well, no over playing or un necessary wankery.

I'm suprised nobody mentioned the "numbered" fret markers! I would think for an instructional video that would be a great thing.

I have a John Patitucci video and he's playing a bass without fret markers! Why would somebody do that? Although, he didn't really teach much on the video, its pretty much just an hour of selfish wankery.

That's funny. Once upon a time, I was trying to teach a complicated part to a guitarist. He couldn't read music, or really understand if I described it to him. As I was demonstrating it for several repetitions, he finally said, "Dude, I can't see what you're doing there. You have no frets." Sure enough, I had tried to show him using my unlined fretless...oops.
