I use that technique when I know guitarist has no clue as to how to play a song.. basically I will "point" at the root notes for them. Otherwise, It is also a fun way to play, if you want the crowd to notice you.. Its very simple and for some reason gets alot of attention..

jschwalls, your hand is over, but you're not using the same technique as this guy all of his fingers where on the board. Sekou Bunch, seems to use this technique when he slaps but this guy, from the 20 or so minutes I saw him play uses this technique all the time.

Like I mentioned before, this seems to be how he plays, he tunes up like this and grooves like this, the entire time I watched him he never switch his left hand technique. A testament to what is possible.

This is Muzz Skillings on bass, Al Cone on Guitar, I'm not sure who the other cats are but this was a BBQ, Jam Session in Queens, NY this past Sunday, also in attendance was bassist and vocalist Barry Johnson(Najee, Lenny White and a host of others), Billy Grant, Onaje Allan Gumbs and others.

I seem to remember an interview where he said that when he joined Living Colour ('86) that he was playing in 10 bands and was experiencing pain in his hands (especially the tips of his fingers) so he came up with this way to play because a different part of your finger hits the strings.

Toward the end of his stint in Living Colour, they played on the Arsenio Hall show the night before Lollapalooza started ('91). He played the whole song like that. I wonder if he started playing like that from there on out.

Geez! Kenny's Castaways! One of the smallest stages I've ever had the chance to play on! I literally had one leg on my combo amp and the other on the drum riser because I had no room to actually stand on the stage!
