cheep G****r volume problem

I just picked up a cheep strat copy (:hiding:start the guitard jokes now:hiding:), but the electronics had been messed with:hmm:. it is a hss configuration and looked like it had been rewired at lest twice. anyway, I used [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] diagram to rewire it only to discover the volume pot was bad so i went to the local guitar shop and picked up a new push pull pot to add a coil tap to the bucker. so everything got wired up again but now the volume seems to be all bunched up around 9-10 and anything lower is dead. What is my problem? :help:

In looking at that diagram, I'm not sure what the #14 pot is supposed to do, since there's nothing attached to the center terminal. It's just acting as a fixed resistor.

Am I missing something?

And where's the output connection? I really don't get that diagram.
