I was looking to upgrade my USA SUB pickguard so I figured I'd take a chance on this China model as it's less than the cost of a decent beer:

It arrived in about a week, not bad.

They did say in the description "Note:Since there are many different pickguard designs and holes patterns on guitars and basses, some slight modifications may be required for an exact fit!"

Well, I guess so! Nice, huh? :eyebrow:

    Sterling perhaps?
  4. Haha, oh man. At least the pickup cutout fits :p

I remember buying a black Fender Jazz pickguard from China for $5 AUD. When I went to install it, I discovered that almost every single screw hole was out of position. It may have been based off either a 60's or 70's Jazz guard because it had a screw hole in the middle of the guard too although there was no mention on the listing.

I later purchased another aftermarket guard from a local store. This one set me back $20 AUD so I figured it HAD to fit. Wrong. The bloody pickup cutouts were too small :/. Needless to say, I got my money back for that one right away.

Moral of the story: Don't trust aftermarket sellers for guards. Bite the bullet and buy the real deal.

I guess you don't need anyone to tell you it was a bad idea but at least it wasn't an expensive mistake.

    It's not personal... I promise ;)

Every time I try to save money, stuff like this happens. I quit being frugal and just buy what I want the first time. It's always better than buying it twice!

No regrets, I feel it was worth it for the entertainmant value alone. Enjoy, my talkbass brethren!

I don't see a problem? ? Nine new screw holes, fill the old holes and paint them black. You're welcome. :)

They kinda look cool together like that. I would glue the black one to the silver one and start a new trend.
  12. Put a fender sticker on it, slap it up on ebay and double your money!
  13. Just sand the body down to fit the guard. Problem solved! LOL

Looks like somebody didn't follow the care instructions on the label.

It's ok to mod the replacement pick guard but the bass? Never.

I hope this is level of a level.... Otherwise someone needs to get their sarcasm detector checked.

Nonetheless thanks for teh luls OP :D
  18. Thats the reason I started to make pickguards on my own when I have the old one as a template. It works well with monocromatic, because Im using plexi sheets.

I knew your post was sarcastic but thought I would make the point because as you might know people do dumb stuff with nice basses.
