Chipotle

Speaking of real Mexican food, my supper tonight was a couple of carne guisada tacos from a local place called Taqueria Agave. 4 bucks for two big tacos, I feel sorry for you guys in the north east and across the pond

Since you are in Northern California, there is really no reason for you to go to Chipoltle. Go to taquerias my good man! Better and cheaper.

I was totally bummed a few years ago to find that the Cadillac Grill (a non-chain Mexican restaurant) in SF had been displaced by the new Moscone West Convention Center.

I've never eaten at Chipotle and never will. When Chipotle opened up here I applied for a job and nailed the interview. I was hired on the spot. The manager said she would call me in about 2 weeks with more information about my training and starting date, since she was not sure when construction would be finished. 2 weeks go by and I hadn't received a call. So I wait another week and still no call. I truck on over there and by luck I run into the manager. I ask her what the deal is, and she lies right to my face saying she has no idea who I am and that I never submitted an application.

A few months later I got a temporary job at Toys R Us and a co-worker mentions that she and her husband went to Chipotle to try it out. Another co-worker tells us that he applied for a job there and the Chipotle manager did the same thing to him that she did to me.

I think you should boycott all Mexican restaurants and any place with a female manager too!

Way to be sarcastic. I have one experience with Chipotle and it turned out to be extremely negative. Someone at corporate decided this woman would be a good store manager, yet she has proven herself to be a liar and untrustworthy. We've all heard stories of how unsanitary restaurants can be, and I have seen it first hand. I believe that someone who would string along unemployed persons with promises of jobs has character flaws unfitting of running a clean, honest business.

I live in Houston, I consider Chipotle to be about as Mexican as Taco Bell. Then again there is a Taqueria on just about every corner where I live. If the place doesn't sell barbacoa and tamales its not real Mexican food.

Mexicans generally only eat tamales on special occasions, like Christmas, birthday parties, etc. It's a bit unauthentic to have them on an everyday menu.

Yes, its a flower tortilla, they offer corn as well. I am also aware that tamales are seasonal. But thank you for the education in Mexican culture

Eh, I like Chipotle.

Comparing it to authentic Mexican food seems a bit silly just like comparing Olive Garden to true Italian food or PF Changs to real Chinese food. Or for that matter comparing giant, sauce laden, tempura containg, inside out American rolls to authentic sushi.

Then again I don't generally get burritos or tacos at Chipotle. Usually it's a steak bowl with brown rice, fajita veggies, black beans, mild & hot salsas, cheese, a touch of sour cream and as much lettuce as they'll give me. Not a bad lunch.

I can understand someone subjectively liking the taste of Taco Bell more but the difference in food quality is pretty stark. Chipotle is pretty transparent about where they source their ingredients from, especially their meat. TB on the other hand uses the lowest grade meat possible or at least they did a few years ago when I looked into it.

Now if I actually want Mexican food there's countless unbelievable options. For my money California (both Bay Area and SoCal) have better Mexican food than anywhere else - including Mexico. At least what we think of as normal fare. Once you get past the northern part of the country the cuisine changes significantly and is awesome in its own way, especially the Yucatan, Oaxaca, Sinsloa & Veracruz.
