Both seem pretty cool, but I have zero experience with either and cannot offer a valid opinion other choice of color, which is entirely a subjective matter.
My first bass was $100 used and a bit over-priced for the terrible cosmetic condition it exhibited (warped pick guard, rusty strings, pitted hardware, loose fasteners and dodgy wiring), but the neck was dead true. I invested time to make it an ugly, playable and reliable instrument that took a low action setup without having to learn much. It was my only bass for years and paid for itself at the first gig. The second gig covered my labor.
I was hesitant to pay much more, as at the time, I was uncertain if I was going to pursue bass, but it seemed like a reasonable investment if I wanted to put it into someone's hands to back me on other instruments. In the end, I became a bassist who played other lead instruments as well.
My second bass was a G.Gould GGi-5 purchased for 35X that initial bass purchase price, done so with intention and without regret. The first bass would have been given away if the desert had not eaten it first, rendering it no longer playable.
What I'm getting at is that if this is your first bass and foray into music, don't get caught up with the specifics of the instrument. Get something cheap and ready to rock. Have someone you trust make sure it is set up in a reasonably neutral adjustment. Get caught up in playing and learn your needs and desires on a beater. Screw around with it. My first was a cheap 4. My second was an expensive 5. Years later, I found that a couple of very nice 6's (fretted and fretless) covered every situation I gigged and felt like home. If the price is something you can scoff at, that is a good number to begin with.
In retrospect, I do not regret starting on a basic 4 and never anticipated where my needs and tastes would lead me. I ran the same cycle with saxophones, playing throwaways for years on and off before committing to a new barimatone saxomaphone and finding home.
