Choosing a first bass guitar

Any bass with a neck/middle pickup and tone knob will work fine for reggae.

I'd go with the Cort for more bang for your buck. Good reputation build quality, and a neck through body which is almost unheard of in that price range.

Both can do reggae.

I've been playing reggae since the 70s and 4 times out of 5 it's still what I'll be listening to. But it's far from the only music I've played. Punk and funk in the 80s like everyone else. Played country for a while, where those deep reggae pockets worked well for me. Even played African music with some studious types. Flavoured it up with some hip hop and dancehall.

You'll probably find yourself on some sort of similar trajectory.

But basses. I would say get yourself a cheap Jazz bass knock off. They're easy to play. They'd the bass of choice for roots reggae. And they are everywhere. You can try any number of them before you buy. Also they're versatile. Put flats on them for reggae or Motown. Or rounds for rock or funk. As needed.

I wouldn't advise for or against a five string. You don't need one and they cost more. But it's going to be a bit easier to learn one from the start than to change over later.

But mostly just go for it. I've had a lot of fun playing bass and hope you will too.

Having read that you can't demo; I'd definitely go Cort. That instrument looks awesome and they are probably the most undervalued brand out there.
Cort's factory builds a good hunk of Squire, Ibanez, PRS, and (I suspect) Sire's products

I have only two options, first option is 5 string Warwick Rockbass Streamer passive 2009 model going for US$450, and the second option is 5 string Cort CM Artist Bass Series 1997 model going for US$450.

I don't have chance to test them since I'm buying them online.

Why are these the only two options for you, if you are buying online anyway?

I owned a German made Warwick and did not gel with the neck and ended up selling it. It had a unique tone to it, and was pretty heavy. I think it was bubinga wood?

I mean on pawn shops that are able to deliver on my location. Other sites are more expensive and Others are having more poor instruments than these two. Hope you understand my concern.
