My Sennheiser IEM does make some noise. But not as much as you seem to describe. It's the kind of noise you hear only when there is no signal in the IEM.Last weekend I got the chance to play on an IEM rig from a friend (sennheiser 3056U). Looks like a professional (but little outdated) IEM transmitter model.
I was a little surpirsed to find the same problem as i had on the cheap ass model I used before. The noise floor (sea shell hiss) is high (stereo mode, without limiter on - on the receiver) and increases when low frequencies are played thru the IEM. I think it has something to do with the system Sennheiser uses for the transmission (HiDyn stage).
I tried switching frequencies and settings as well. Mono is better (but I like the stereo option), and limiting on decreases the hiss, but also the dynamic sound of the IEM mix.
Gain staging is not the issue, the IEM transmitter was driven with the volume meters at 95%.
Is this is a well know issue for all IEMS?
Or do silent and almost hifi IEMS exist?

I've never used the stock buds on the Carvin, Shure, Senn or Mipro units I have owned.Shure PSM-300 or Spend up on the G4 ?
If the Shure is workable, their stock bubs, the CL step ups or just use KZ10's?
Well I went with the PSM 300. Only ones in stock had the optional CL upgrade buds. I'll probbly sell those..
