Choosing s Bass

Hopefully this post will receive some feedback. :D
Im a noob and have been researching starterpacks. Ive learned that the bass I like, Ibanez GSR200 is Active (batteries). Ive learned this from Zzounds. In searching more, I found the GSR209FM( passive). However, Im torn. I like the Tobías Standard IV. Any feedback on the Tobias Standard Iv and Ibáñez GSR209fm us greatly appreciatrd. Both are not starterpacks but thats cool. Thanx

As far as I know, they are all fine for lower cost basses. I don't think the GSR209 is made any more, but don't be afraid of considering an active bass. I suspect that the battery in the GSR200 will last at least 6 months before it needs to be changed. I owned a GSR205 for a short time (the 5-string version of the GSR200) and thought it was a good value for the money.

I personally like ibanez basses, they have a thinner neck and you can get some bang for your buck. But if you're just starting I would look on Craigslist to see if you can find a decent bass for cheap, a lot of people buy starter kits and realize that bass isn't for them so they sell the kit for less then they bought it for

I don't know if you've considered Squiers but I bought the Affinity Jazz bass starter bass pack a few years ago and it served me well. The accessories that came with it were garbage (cable, headphones, and an ok tuner) but for the price of $299, I think the bass and amp were well worth it. I traded the bass in for a vintage modified jazz a couple months ago but I'm still using the Rumble 15 amp that came with it.

OK, the GSR200FM has a different body (FM=Flame Maple top), but it is also an active bass. It uses the same circuitry as the other GSR2xx models and uses a 9V battery.

I will also agree with Solarmist that the SR300 is worth every penny as an upgrade over the GSR200. Better neck, fretwork, pickups, and electronics--can't really go wrong there if you can swing the extra cash (or find one in good condition to purchase used).

Thx everyone for the input I did check out the Sr300. Looks nice. Im into passive cuz I just wanna plug n play. But If an Active or passive/Active is at a Good price, I will do it. Still interested in that Tiger eye peavey mellinnium and tobias Standard IV

i started with a 200 and wish i never sold that bass . . . depending on what all you need, you could prob find an amp for <$50 on craigslist, and spend a little more on a used bass.

I had an opportunity to play a used Toby Standard IV yesterday, and I was kind of impressed honestly. Neck was fast and comfortable. Body was light and felt good. Electronics were nothing super fancy but still solid. Unfortunately he had it priced the same as a new one so I didn't come home with it. For the money it played better than alot of the basses in that price point. I'd like to play a new one and see if its the same. May have had a good setup job done on it.

If the store would've come down I would've brought it home. I liked it. Im definitely looking for one now.

This. I'm a fan of the SR bases but the Gsr just isn't in the same class as the others. There are a lot of them out there and they are pretty trouble free. Look for a used higher end one here and you'll be a lot happier.

Don't think twice about an active bass. The tones are better all around and replace the battery once a year. Just don't leave it laying around with the cord plugged in and your good to go. Replace the batt at Xmas for a reminder
