Chris Brubeck

I was lucky to hear Chris on bass with his brother Dan on drums and David Benoit and Taylor Eigstei on piano accompanied by the Peninsula Orchestra in Redwood City this Friday.

Terrific show and they're playing again tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 at the Flint Center in Cupertino. The Redwood City show was sold out, the Flint program hasn't sold out. If you like jazz and like bass, I've rarely seen a better performance. Almost makes me want to buy a fretless Ric!

When I was ~15 years old or so back in the mid-1970s I saw Dave Brubeck & Sons on an episode of (I think) PBS' Soundstage, and it remains to this day one of the most memorable musical events I've ever seen. Dave Brubeck of course is a legend, but all three of his sons -- Chris, Danny, and Darius who played keyboards -- are fantastic musicians in their own right. Chris gets mentioned pretty regularly around TB ...especially in threads about whether it's possible to emulate an upright on the electric bass guitar.

Don't recall him playing a Ric when I saw him play with Jim Hall at My. Gretna.
