You must be right, whatever it is, its very attractive!

Nice to see that again. I sold a lot of basses and guitars into Belgium and Holland when I had a brilliant dealer in Antwerp.

I don't get asked much for colours these days. Most customers want natural wood and a silk finish which does suit a lot of timbers.

Edit. I just checked the site in Belgium. That is not a shop that I know which was (is) also in Antwerp. How can a factory make a bass that sells for 199 Euro? In that price is the factory labour and materials costs, the shipping, the dealer profit and the tax! I cannot hardly get a pair of custom pickups made for that!

Some advice please. I'm in the process of updating the specs of the Syra basses and have had some interesting discussions about nut widths. If I was making a bass for a customer then the nut width is what they specify. If I am making one for stock then I have a standard of 43mm which is close to P Bass - still, I think, the biggest selling design of 4 string bass in the world so it must be doing something right. The norm for the Jazz Bass is 38mm (although I've seen a genuine early Fender of 33mm). Should this be the new standard or would a compromise of 40mm be better? I am not a bass player so I need advice. Your views please.

It's nice to see Chris Larkin basses being discussed. I've never had the pleasure of being able to play one but have been curious about them for years. They look wonderful.....and great to see Chris being a part of the discussion. Welcome!

They are wonderful. Even if you're not going to buy one just send Chris a mail and ask him anything you like. He's very approachable. And as I said, lovely instruments.

At this point in my life I have a good friend who makes anything that I need. He just finished a 6 for me last year and it's incredible. However, it's really good to see that a smaller luthier from across the pond is being talked about here, especially someone who's been doing it as long as Chris has. I'd love to see someone like him become more recognized over here, although there is something to be said for building up your clientele close by, as long as it can support your business and family.

Do it Jeff! It doesn't matter what the specs are, you're never gonna find one of those Citronics in any other bass. Ever. Plus, it looks cool.

I know! I think I had one of his last basses with a Citronic circuit.
Chris has already talked me out of (in his own way :p) having a new bass made at this time. Something about crappy US dollar/Euro exchange rate and insane shipping costs & customs duties...
But dang it if this thing isn't just calling to me!

btw...if anyone knows a guy in the Huntsville, Alabama area, who works for Boeing...he bought my bass a few years ago. I'd love to check in sometime.

+1! :bassist:

I kinda feel guilty for not drooling over a Skjold, what with Pete living only a few minutes from me...but I've never owned or even played a Skjold.

Chris' work, I'm familiar with.

If I recall the conversation correctly, I believe that's a Chris Larkin fretless being played by Bob Daisley on Ozzy Osbourne's "Goodbye To Romance." Well...if you can find an original recording that Sharon didnt have Bob's lines re-recorded on! :rollno:
Other than that, I don't know of any major recordings with Chris' basses. I know Del Palmer has quite a few, so maybe there's some Larkin basses on Kate Bush's albums, but I dont know...
