Chris Squire amp question

I honestly do not know what he uses on that particular deal...but h has been an Ampeg endorser for years,,,if memory serves, he uses 4Pros, II Pros, 8X10s and subs...

I still remember the best live stadium sound I ever heard was a Heart concert in the late 70's--I think I was 13-14, but it is still lodged in my mind as an amazingly clear sound. The bass in particular (of course I was already geeking out heavy on tone back then:) just sounded so "right". None of that mush as you say. I WAS sitting straight back in the center too, so that's a factor.
I think ultra-low sub frequencies have their place but in a large venue sometimes it just doesn't work, or certainly not all over the room--maybe just in the sweet spot. And it's largely dealt with a heavy hand these days . . .

I'm only interested in how he got his sound on Fragile, namely Roundabout, Long Distance Runaround, and Heart of the Sunrise. I could have sworn I read an old article where he ran stereo, with the treble PU going into a Fender Twin, but I could be mistaken.

I had read the same thing. I alswo swear, could be wrong though, that when I saw them "in the round" in '78-'79 ..or there about, he actually had Twins on stage.

He was famous for doing the Ric stereo output, bridge pup to a guitar rig, all dirty, and neck pup to a big, clean bass rig. It's the only way to get "that" sound, even if you use a clean blend with your dirt, it's not the same thing. Oh, and "moon-boots".

I tried a patch on my VB99 with that concept , nice result !

The VB99 has two independant engine , very easy to achieve.
Now I just have to learn to play with a quarter !

A popular myth and true but for one small detail, Bridge pup was loud n clean and the Neck pup was sent through a fuzz box....its somewhere on this forum a discussion, but can't find it.

I remember reading an interview with Squire in the 70's that showed a picture of him fiddling with a small amp - I believe a Univox. From fuzzy memory I remember him saying it really didn't matter what amp he used - he just twiddled with it until he got the sound he wanted. I guess that's easy to say when you can have any amp you want :-)
