Church/Bar Band....Thoughts?

That depends on denomination. I've often heard it told that the Presbyterian model (decision making done by a Session of Elders) was the model for the US Congress. On the other hand, some non-denominational churches are run by self-appointed bishops with hand-picked staff of ministers (often, but not always family members). That's why the wide disparity of "church rules".

:hmm: Start charging your church enough money for your services so you don't have to work in bars. :)

Jesus didn't hang out in the temples but in the common places with the common people. I play in my church and in clubs, concert halls & @ festivals and I know that I am called to be there and to be a light. I've been judged for this over the years but remember that your Christian brother or sister who is offended by this is the one with the problem, not you. We are to be unoffendable as believers. Are you behaving as a Christian or wallowing in the filth of sin with the rest of the world? That's the question.

I'm a rock & roll guy. Two things that I never thought mixed well together, church & rock and roll. It's why I've never entertained the idea of playing in a church band.

Alrighty ,to the man/woman who drinks to the point of falling down and ruining their life (like i did) drinking would be considered a sin,to those people that eat till they are obese,that would be considered a sin,to swear to the point that in polite company you would offend little children,same thing,ALL things in moderation,SOME things absolutely not ,no its not subjective to you or anyone else,all things are permitted, not all are beneficial.
The idea being ,police yourself with Gods help cause your not gonna do it on your own,left to yourself you will choose wrong,but,we are all different ,you might choose proper in one area i may not and vice versa,the problem is noone wants anyone to tell them what they can and cannot do,considered as judging,ya cant argue Gods word if ya havent studied ,its the reason i dont argue music theory,im not qualified,really read the book then discuss why some churches stab you in the back and some dont,the ONE problem with churches,is they are all filled with sinners,with faults and failings, if ya find a perfect church with perfect people do not set foot in it cause the minute you do youll ruin it.
Please read the whole book before ya try to debate ,peace and sorry for the rant.

I'm blessed to play in a church where the congregation and staff are supportive of our music, both in church and outside of church. I've played many times with the church band in bars and other venues, playing the very same songs.

One particularly memorable occasion was when we were playing an organized jam where several bands played short sets. Due to scheduling, the church band played last. It was late, people were getting loud, but when we started playing the first song, People Get Ready a la Curtis Mayfield you could hear a pin drop in that room. It continued that way through the entire set. It was an amazing thing to see the powerful effect the message of those songs could have on people.

Ultimately, it comes down to your own self confidence. We all have different images we maintain in different parts of our lives and the "church image" is one of them. If the judgment of others about playing in bars as well as church bothers you, the real solution is to look into yourself and decide how this fits into your own self confidence on your image in the church community. If you are comfortable with what you are doing, then the downlookers won't bother you, but if they do bother you, the problem may be more about your internal conflicts.

Here's something to chew on......freecreditreport.com.......the band that won the contest.....all good friends of mine and all work (or did) at my church.
Like others have said, if your heart is true, you'll be ok.
