CIJ Geddy Lee experts- Does this seem legit?

Upon some research, I cant find any GL model that has the serial on the neck plate. Some of the MIJ serials have worn off in some of my past basses..They sent me pics and this is the only strange thing. Headstock has the sig on the back, 70s spacing, Badass bridge etc. Thoughts?

The neckplate is a Fender Limited Edition one. I'm leaning towards being skeptical? There isn't a Made in Japan or anything else anywhere on the neck? Seems odd to me as well.

Yeah I've never seen that on a Geddy. I have seen some older MIJ or CIJ with a serial neckplate. Weird. I think I would remove the neck first thing and see if there are any markings on the neck and/or the body neck joint. I know before F switched production to Mexico for the Geddy the limited edition neckplate was changed to a standard one and the neck read Made in Japan. Good luck!

What I cant see anywhere out there is any other GL jazzes that have the neck plate with the serial number like in my photo..

My old Crafted in Japan was on the base or heal of the neck. I can't remember where the serial# was.

I’m trying to remember mine when I had the neck off. I do remember the body has “GL” in a very light stamp on the inside neck pocket. My CIJ had the words “crafted in Japan” on the neck near the bottom above the four bolt plate. Mine also had the serial on the headstock. My Geddy was a pre 2008 is all I remember and I purchased it new. It also had a a blare neck plate with no “F” or serial numbers. Now that’s not to say your Geddy isn’t legit as fender is know to change things up on the fly. I hope you get an answer, best of luck wish I could help more. Those CIJ Geddy’s are so well made and the 70’s spacing was what was the biggest reason I moved on to my 08’s 60’s spacing, otherwise I would have kept it as it was a real player !

Ah! So that’s the one I saw on GC that got away. Congrats! Considering the vague title they listed it not knowing it was an MIM, MIA, MIJ, or in this case CIJ.

I found a MIJ Geddy at a local pawn shop for 750 a few months ago but it was in not so great shape with the bass string popping off the board all the time, some dings and fingerprints, rust on screws. Think it's still sitting there.

Just as another point of reference, I have a 2007 GL with "Crafted in Japan" on the back of the neck near the heel, nothing at all on the neck plate, and the signature on the back of the head stock.

mine is a 2007 (i think) and has crafted in japan and the serial number on the heel just above the neck plate. i bought it new but would have to go through my records to find out exactly what year i bought it.

Yes, if they have an engraver tool. I would actually do that myself if I noticed for some reason I was wearing out the heel on the neck and the serial number on the heel was beginning to rub off.

Edit:- perhaps did it when intending to sell it as basses without serial numbers lose value as well, they could be perceived as fake or well, stolen.

Nope. I have a CIJ Geddy Lee The CIJ and Serial are on the heel of the neck. The neckplate is plain. Serial starts with R02. There is a later MIJ GL that has MIJ instead but same spot on the neck heel. Then production moved to Mexico.

Any other pictures of the bass?

What I suspect is this is a mij/cij reissue jazz bass (and possibly nice) but not a Geddy Lee model or perhaps an upgraded Squire. Geddy Lee jazz will have the signature on the back of the headstock for the MIJ or signs of removals.

Yeah I hear ya..I have an 80s Tune Maniac MIJ and over time the serial that was at the neck heel has worn off completely..
