nothing other than the year of manufacture before or after 1996/97
MIJ before
CIJ after

"Crafted" sounds "better"

simple-- you'll see people on ebay listing stuff, stating things like "this is the better, crafted-in-japan stuff, not the cheaper made in japan version" or vice versa. The only dfifference is the decal.
