That is very cool, and something I will certainly take advantage of in the future. For the order I just placed minutes ago, though, I used the "antsy procrastinator Express Mail option" for considerably more. Totally my own fault. If there were a teleport option, I probably would've sprung for it... this time. Next time I'll plan ahead.

The site changes are cool. Closest thing to totally custom built strings on the web, and the prices are very reasonable for what you're getting.

Every time the subject of strings comes up with local players, I mention you guys. People are interested to know that I've got a balanced set on my bass (and interested to learn that they don't).

On someone's recommendation I got the balanced

for BEAD tuning and I love it! It's exactly what I wanted; I was using a .130 B before but felt that it was still too floppy. I don't usually give a ton of thought to strings besides the round/flat/steel/nickel aspects, but I'm gonna have to stick with these!

It's an incredibly enjoyable set. Good call on the 150 low B. It really feels great and flexible enough to be useful.

Well, I set up my fretless last night just to get a feel for where I was at with it and to see if some of the minor imperfections in the epoxy board caused any issues. From what I can tell, aside from a slight shim on the bass side, it's almost ready to go (although I'm going to have the body professionally re-painted, because I suck at it).

So now I'm torn on how to tune it. I'm considering EADGCF (octave below) with a Balanced 222 set on a 35" scale. Does anybody have clips of Circle K strings larger than .200 on a 34-35" scale? Skip, I remember you saying you were using a .190 E on a 36" fretless. Do you have any recordings of it?

By the way, for anyone who is interested, I've attached Circle K's tension chart (with the new strings and unit weights) as a spreadsheet. It's useful for anyone using a non-34" scale length that wants to see tension specific to his/her scale length. Just change the scale at the top in red and everything else will follow suit.

I got bored at work today. I tried to keep it exactly like your tension chart, but there were some things (like the .029 string tension ratings) that I adjusted. Enjoy, good sir. :)

You may even be able to output it to XML and implement it directly into the website - I'm not sure how well formulas do when exported to XML, but it might be worth a shot to alleviate some of the tedious work.

I'm thinking about going with these as the strings on my first bass (I bought used and can't use the originals, plus I want BEAD tuning) but there sure isn't a lot of demo audio to judge the sound. Can anyone post some more clips/videos of these strings? I'm specifically interested in hearing a low B.

Also since some of these gauges aren't standard, does that mean all you folks are changing or modifying your nut each time you change to or away from Circle Ks? I ask because as a beginner this is something that I don't know.

If I still had my Ibanez I'd post a recording with the low B. Sounded great.

I always get my bass setup when I change the strings, so if any nut work was necessary the tech just did it.

Yes, they require some modification, but not much. And if the nut is cut properly, once it is filed to accommodate the larger gauge, you should be able to switch back to the smaller gauge without any real issue.

When I get home today, I'll record the .150 low B on my Spector for you.

I just received my set today. Skip was awesome and got these out to me when I ordered Midday on wednesday.

Wow - I never thoughts strings could have such a profound impact on playability and tone. These are amazing and solved alot of gripes that I had with my 35" scale Spector Rebop.

My wife whom never really comments on my playing thought that my run through the head of Donna Lee was especially fluid, I use it as a warm up exercise and funny enough, this was the first run through, it usually doesn't begin to really flow until the 3rd or 4th time I play it.
