Circle K strings...

So just a slight concern. Any issues with shipping/turnaround times? I'm thinking I'd place my order at the beginning of April but need to meet an appointment on April 19th for the repairman to make a new nut for me (gonna put the refret off or at least get an opinion on if a recrown is possible). I just don't want the appointment date to come and go without me having strings in hand, and if it will help my cause if I go ahead and order now.

If it turns out that I dig these strings I could see myself placing a bulk order and changing my strings more frequently.

Depending on location, it's usually just a few days turnaround. Is there any reason you can't just order them now?

Bills. The wife and I just came back from vacation so money is a little tight. She get's PTO,...I do not. Plus I also just dropped $700 bucks on an SVT-CL so I need to keep music related expenses to a minimum which is why I'm going to put off a refret for a month or two.

Turnaround time seems legit enough,...just didn't know if there were any unforeseen issues and the "Just got back from NAMM getting caught up on communications" header on the CKS homepage was slightly scary,....but my mind is at ease.

Appreciate it. :)

I still really want to try these strings. I'm hoping one day, circle K can make a nickle free, or coated version? (I have a nickle allergy and it seriously jacks my fingers up using nickle strings) :(
Circle K have, in the past, stated an intent to produce steels as a high priority, so lets hope they're still coming. I'm waiting for steels too for the same reason.

I'm fairly certain Circle K is actually based in Washington (I want to say Tacoma, but don't quote me on that), so if turnaround time is more than a week, I'd be wholly surprised. On the plus side, if they are located close enough to you, you might be able to save on shipping and pick the strings up directly from Skip.

I know I said something a while back. At one point it was mentioned that steels were next, but that's been quite a long time now. I'm just hoping to remind that there are some of us who really need them. As it stands I have to buy Custom steel sets cause I down tune. Circle K would be a great solution, since they have so many set options.

GHS is pretty good about it(they have a nickle free series), but they don't have nearly the gauge options. :help:

Labella makes stainless steels that go all the way up to .150, and Ken Smith has steels up to a .145. Both companies have an adequate selection, methinks. Bass Strings Online (links to both Invalid Link Removed and Invalid Link Removed) has the "build your own custom set" option, and the owner is a TBer, so if you email him (Jason) with your TB username, he will hook you up with special VIP pricing. Quick shipping too.

Don't sweat turnaround times. IIRC, I ordered my strings on a Saturday and got them Tuesday. I would have to check my previous posts, but it was fast - and I live in FL.

I'm still very pleased with the strings. Played this past Saturday in a small, packed room that had the A/C overwhelmed (it got real hot in there). Wasn't able to clean the strings before playing Sunday morning at our service and they were slightly dull; a rag w/denatured alcohol fixed that and for our evening service they sounded like new again.

Got a trip coming up in June so I'll most likely be ordering another set to take as backup.

+1 for Jason at Bass Strings Online. Best prices and service you'll find.

+2 for Jason. I buy my roundwounds only from Skip, and my flats only from Jason. :bassist:

FWIW I just installed my first .146 balanced set on my B25 after using .136's. Wow. Love both sets!

Just had my first Circle K experience. Ordered a set each of guitar and bass strings. Have only put on the guitar strings so far because I can't find my good clippers so I can cut the bass ones.

First impressions are great! The D'Addario strings I had on the guitar (a Carvin TL60 with double humbuckers) sounded poor on the high frets even when they were fresh. These are just toneful beasts! Might try to get a set with a wound third next time.

I am about to take a leap into the CK pool. But I need a little more input. I currently use Conklin Guitars Snakeskins Extended-Range Bass Strings on my GTBD-7(.165, .135, .110, .80, .55, .35, .25). The folks at CK recommended the .190 balanced set. I'm thinking of getting the .182 balanced set, but I am open to input. Does anyone have any experience with either of these guages? I'm trying to take advantage of the 24-hour discount.

What's your tuning? F#-C?

I don't have particular experince with that set, but I have purchased several sets in the .130 -.142 range, and maybe the following will have some relation to it. With other sets of strings (DR, etc...) I used .130 (M) B strings. The Circle K's of the same size seem to have less tension, and are more like a ML or L compared to some other sets. So I use .136's and .142's now, as I like a little more tension. I use the .142's for rock and the .136's for everything else. So maybe the recommendation for a fatter set factors in the tension being potentially lower? Great strings either way!
