CL NJ: '75 Carl Thompson $4K

And neither are selling. CT basses were desirable for some time mostly due to Les Claypool. There never was a huge market for non scroll models to begin with but I would venture to say its even less now. Nice basses but I wouldn't consider $4000 a hot deal for one. I sold a 94 five string scroll a year or so ago for 3700. It was listed here for some time and didn't sell. I finally put it on ebay and got one bid.

Oh, I see. Those ones on the CT website. I've been seeing them for months.

Well, I know CT is a great bass, but the price makes me feel somewhat too high

since it doesn't look expensive as much as Fodera, you know.

Although I already own a fretless 4 string CT,

and its playability is amazing.

Therefore... to the ones who has money, it worth commitment.

It's a really nice looking bass. The CT I owned played very well. It had very even string tension and was a breeze to finger pick. I suppose one of the reasons for that was the 36" scale. Unfortunately, the 36" scale was also the main factor in me getting rid of it. I tried playing it every day to get comfortable with it, but it just never felt right on my fret hand.
I thought it sounded very similar to a Warwick thumb.

Circa 1978 I saw a Carl Thompson on 48th st. NYC in one of the smallest shops on the block selling for $750 new.
I purchased one from Carl for $650 at the time. It is my most prized instrument to this day. It was love at first pluck.
