I'm cranky in my old age.
Anyone else notice the Class D amps are 320 percent efficient according to their power consumption?

Is this due to the fact that they "sound" like X watts like TC did?

If an amp requires 250 watts of power to operate and no more but is putting out 800 watts of power is this not 320 percent efficient?

Simply not true, you just don't understand the international safety and EMC certification standards and requirements for compliance. See my response in the 1200 watt thread.

Also, this is true of EVERY amp, not just class D amps. Here's an example, note specifically the reference to 1/8-power pink noise at 4 ohms:

Now we can (roughly) work backwards from these numbers to find the overall efficiency of the amp at 1/8-power, 3400 x .125 = 425 watts, 425W/1440W = 0.3 x 100% = ~30%

As you can quickly see, efficiency plays a huge roll in AC power consumption and this is very much what drives class D. The increase in efficiency represents a direct reduction in heat that must be dissipated.

You've been told repeatedly why what you're asserting here is just not the case and yet you keep asserting it. At this point you're just trolling. Not a good look on you.
