Double Bass Class of 2012, where are you applying/auditioning?

Just wanted to see all the high school seniors choices for music school this year.

There are rumors that Hal or Owen lee will be taking over, so it's probably still worth auditioning.

Doesn't really make sense for Hal to leave Philly and Curtis to teach 20 bass players. It would be a great gig for someone like Owen but I think it's unfair to speculate on anybody at this point

I apologize, but my point was that there will be some really great bass players coming in, so it's still worth auditioning for Indiana. :-D

Im not applying to IU for a few reasons.. But as for me, MSU, IU, Rice, CIM, and possibly Peabody or BU.

BU, NEC, Eastmen, CIM, Curtis... I'm not applying to IU, not because I'm afraid Hurst is leaving but more just because I don't want to go to a school with 40 bassists

I don't know if you've noticed this, but I have yet to meet any other bass player in our class. Maybe it's just us three... That would certainly make the Curtis audition more feasable! Haha

Well, irbassist and I met at Interlochen, where we met a few other bass players (without talkbass accounts...) who are applying to schools this year. And I've met a few bassists around my own area who are applying to schools as well (two are trying for Curtis). But yeah, I'm not applying to Curtis because of money being tight, and I want to have the cash to visit Peabody and possibly Rice if I get past the prescreening... Plane tickets to Houston are pricy.

Cool, I went to Interlochen in 2010, decided to stick around this summer, family issues. WYSO played some great music though, I watched a couple concerts online.

Nothing fancy atm, a bunch of 'folkhögskolor', whose musical educations are very good to help you get into a musical college if you have the motivation. Also great places to develop, since you are living at the campus in the middle of nowhere with nothing else to do than just play with people, practise, study music and have a great time.

Plan is to eventually make it in to the Royal College of Music (KMH) in Stockholm.

Not at all, the only reason this becomes US-centric is because there are mostly US players discussing here, and I can't really blame you for it being so.

I'm not even sure if there are more than one Euro here who even knows of the school the other are applying for, hence not much discussion from 'our' side.

i know a ton of other guys but i dont think any of them are on TB? lets just say that there will be plenty goin up for the curtis spot(s) this year
