Double Bass Class of 2012, where are you applying/auditioning?

Who teaches at McGill? I haven't heard much about that school...

I keep seeing CIM mentioned as a conservatory that students are planning to audition for admission to. My son has been studying there for the last 8yrs as a Suzuki double bass student. My question is, what is it about CIM that is attractive to prospective students? I'm asking for input as CIM would be a convenient choice for my son should he choose to pursue a conservatory education.

For me, it's the faculty... My teacher knows one of the bass faculty, and both are members of the Cleveland Orchestra, so they could provide a prospective on how to prepare for professional orchestra auditions well.

Who teaches there other then Dimoff Now? I found it wierd that oberlin, cim and csu all have Dixon on there faculty list, I can't imagine he has a full studio at all three schools.

Ali Yazdanfar teaches at McGill. Definitely worth looking into IMO.

Dixon and Tom Sperl are the 2 teachers at Oberlin; Dixon recently took over the studio of Scott Haigh, asst. principal of Cleveland and also Dixon's former teacher. I took an audition there this past winter and then Haigh left shortly after that.. don't know what the situation was.

I am aware of Dixon at Oberlin, I visited there. So he has a studio at both Oberlin and CIM, he must be pretty busy

Yeah, I've talked to Mr. Dixon in emails, he just hasn't replied to my last one about visiting at CIM... It's a bit confusing.

And I didn't realize he taught there, although I recall him winning a position in a Canadian orchestra, so that makes sense. Sounds intriguing, but my parents want me to go to school in the States.

Also, ADissen, you go to Peabody, right? (It says that on your profile) Who do you study with there? I'm applying to audition this winter.

Cim (the Cleveland institute) is in Cleveland Ohio, I doubt Mr Dixon is going anywhere. I'm in Claveland frequently, in the youth Orchestra and take lessons. I had a lesson with him once, I'm not really that in to the whole laborie endpin/board walk type stuff which is what he is doing. I've had a lot of friends who study with him and have improved drastically though.

Im in Pj's studio. Peabody is a pretty nice place to study. Jeff Ira and PJ are all great guys, some really good masterclasses, good vibes in the section etc etc. Don't hesitate to check it out.

Oh I got It now... And yeah, I'm the priniple in COYO, I don't really know any of the percussionists or clarinetists though.

i'm applying as a transfer to Juilliard and they ask for two mvmts of a baroque sonata. anyone else who's applying: what are you playing? i'm thinking of eccles, plus bottesini since i'm a transfer.

I didnt get past the prescreening at Rice, but i kind of expected that. First audition is at Michigan State later this month.
