It seems no one is doing anything with this brand. They had
some unique designs in the 60's. Some looked like Fenders made out of salt water taffey!

Alvarez, Mosrite and Vox are all being currently made.
Still looking for more of the defunct out of production brands.

A T40 five string??? Call it a T-50? I like it. Peavey, are you listening?

What bass guitar companies would it be fun to see again?

None of them, because it would be absolutely nothing but bogus marketing of farmed-out Asian mill instruments, and an insult to the originals.

I'm tired of all this fakery by people who bought the trademarks for $86 and have some Chinese mill throw together some "vintage" design and farm out the distribution while they never leave their office chairs.

Not only is that an insult to the originals, it's a gross insult to my intelligence.

I'd love to see the return of real Steinbergers, namely the graphite XL series basses.

Totally agree, although IMO they should be identical to the L2 not the XL2. I think the L2 lost some of it's mojo when it became the XL2. Technical specs aside, it's far too 'plastic/smooth' looking... gimme the hex bolts on the front plus the three on the bridge for the more robust L2 appearance. I did hear that the bodies were slightly larger too... whatever it is, the L2 just looks 'right'.

I know there are some who like old Hondos and I mean no disrespect, but cripes. Every one I ever picked up was an absolute piece of junk.

Exactly. And to go with it, and I'm trying not to call any specific company out, just forming an opinion outloud- if a bass was made years ago "as an affordable alternative to high-end basses", they return now and it's just a high-end bass.

I went through a phase awhile back and attempted to revive an old SD Curlee. I learned a little about the original company, the instruments, etc, and I've always had a thing for double cut style basses. Now they're being reproduced and I'm sure they are fantastic basses, but they are priced higher IMO than the average person can afford. I know it's a capitalist society and I don't want to get flamed. I just wish some company with a CNC would've started making them so maybe the price would be half of what it is.

Robin Basses were pretty cool. Wouldn't mind an old Ampeg (AUB if I recall).

Agreed. IMHO, the best "improvement" with the XL2 was the flip-out leg rest. But I wouldn't complain if either one was faithfully reissued....

Lafayette electronics put out this cool green bass that I think had 3 pickups. Pretty sure it was the same as the above companies, but without the logo. I wanted that thing desperately when I was a kid. I can't even find it online now. Would love to see that again.

I would really like to see the old Carlo Robelli too. Light years away from the new CR. I remember drooling over a friends brand new Carlo Robelli Les Paul that I swear was more beautiful and played nicer than some of the real things I had my hands on at that time. Could have been my inexperienced eyes and envy that the guitar wasn't mine, but that guitar was absolutely beatiful. And smelled great too in it's padded case. Ahhh.... the old Carlo Robelli.

Hey Joe,
I used to think those looked cool, but the last two cheap guitars like that I bought, were just plain depressing to own.
They give off a slummy-palookaville kinda vibe.

I had a Kent solidbody and a Supro 12 solidbody.
Was glad to sell them.

A modern version of those designs, made of AAA tonewoods, hardware and craftmanship, that would be nice.

Peavey is obviously still making basses, but I think a lighter T-40, with a range of colors and fretboard options would be cool. Maybe a T-40 fiver...

How about a T-50 5 string bass that would be under 10 pounds.
