classic bassguitar and amp combinations

from the guitar world there's the classic les paul/marshall stack combination which is more or less the staple of rock music, I have to admit to bein a bit of a tone ignoramous (still buyin purely on looks!) but from the bass world, what model of bass is generally considered to be THE bass for a certain type of amp?

come on peeps, fill me in!

fender Jazz and ampeg svt and 8x10


Fodera and epifani ul 502/902 and any epifani cab


fender jazz fretted/fretless and acoustic 360 and 361 cabinet


neuser and ebs


actually just about anything with a jazz bass has been done and sounds real good

I always liked a fender precision bass and an ampeg svt head with an 8-10 cabinet and it sounded good in an acoustic 370 head and 301 cabinet. It even sounded good on a kustom k200b head and a 2-15 cabinet. But in the studio, just plug it into an ampeg b15, an old 212 bassman, or just about any fender 4-10 setup for a good sound.

I'm glad you made this thread! I was just pondering the same thing and I got my answer. I'm going with the Ampeg SVT Head with 8x10 cab on my next purchase after I get me an american P bass. I have a MIM P bass now with a gallen kruger Backline 115 combo amp. I only gig at my local church for now and I've finally put together a band. Our first rehersal is monday! Hope it all works out. The sky's the limit!

They are a sound machine but get ready to do some heavy lifting! Head is around 90lbs, cab is 200lbs or so.
