So which is the better instrument- the Fender Classic Series- Lacquer '50s Precision & "60s Jazz bass or the Road Worn Precision & Jazz bass.
Yeah, this is what I'm trying to figure out. I have seen a lot written about the RWs but, as Jim said, there doesn't seem to be a lot of Classic Lacquers out and so straight up comparisons between the two are pretty scarce. The only reason I was asking about the difference is that if both the CL and RW are essentially equals quality-wise, I'd rather pay $100 less and get a hardshell case. The black p bass with rosewood board looks pretty darn good. I'm not anti-relic though so if the RWs are a step ahead, I'll go with the fiesta red RW and put on a tort guard.
In the meantime I will keep an eye on the classifieds for a Am. Std. or AVRI.

. Honestly though, since there is no way for me to physically play both and A/B them I am going to have to just pull the trigger on one. I have a Baja telecaster which is essentially the Classic Series of teles and the fit and finish is really quite good. Some of the instruments coming out of the Mexico plant are just great players. I don't think one would go wrong with either.
