Double Bass Clean and shine question

If you want to remove the lacquer/finish of the bass, try to get hold of some dog pee. A couple of days ago, a friend of mine (a sax player, by the way) told me he had an old bass stored in the attic. I urged him to get it down so I could have a look at it. After close inspection, he left the bass lying on the floor, and his dog took an interest in it when we left the room. The result: bare wood!

Ok, here you go.

2 parts raw linseed oil
2 parts mineral oil
2 parts terpentine
4 parts water
4 parts denatured alcohol(and not a drop more)

Mix together in a clean bottle. Put the cap on. Shake it up.
Put some on a paper towel or clean cloth and go to work. Wipe off the excess. For really stuborn dirt or rosin build up put it on 2 ought or 4 ought steel wool. Don't rub too hard or you'll dull
the finish. Don't forget to wipe dry.
It'll work for the fingerboard too, but don't use it on the strings; a small amount of denatured alcohol on a cloth or paper towel will work for this.
As they say...try it in an out of the way place and don't blame me if you do it wrong.

Let me know how it works for you. Luthiers have used this formula for at least 100 years.
