Gaslighting Abbie was Tom Barney, probably with an ESP custom J bass. I believe that what he was playing in that era. He's playing Kneissel basses now. Monster player, he was the original player on Chicago Song by Sanborn too. Great guy to, the real deal, a pro's pro. Last I talked to him he was touring with Mary K Blige.

I saw Tom Barney with them quite a few years ago. On the DVD album, Becker and Fagen were sitting with him giving him grief over the quilted maple top on his ESP bass. Something along the lines of, "Is it to compensate for poor mothering?" - a concept with which I can identify.
