Clean sounding budget bass?

I play a Chinese simplest basic single pickup Squire P-bass, my first and only bass for 3 years now.

Quite often it makes that annoying random static noise. It won't go away unless I touch the strings (grounding issue?).
I was thinking about getting another instrument which would be less likely to have that issue and would sound clean while in the price range (+/— $100) of my P bass. What can you reccomend me?
My hands are quite large, so I hate those horrible paper thin necks like those on the Ibanez SR basses.
Also, I believe I have a my first GAS rush ever and this is at the same time an excuse to get a new toy. Therefore, I don't really feel like getting my current bass fixed.

Oddly enough, I too have large hands, and I prefer a thinner neck. Diff'rent strokes I guess.

If you like Chunky necked basses, then yeah, keep looking to the Fender Squier Precision bass, and it's been a VERY long time since I have looked at one, but maybe look into Peavey basses. I remember their necks being plenty wide...

Just drop in to a guitar shop of your choice, and check out what they have in your price range and play them... Find the instrument that fits you best and go for it!

You know, once you get GAS there's no known cure!

I would go to all your local music stores & pawn shops and try all the basses in your price range.
The Squier VM and CV series basses are right in there and are great value for $.
