Clicking with new strings.

I Bought a set of DR Hi Beams Round wound strings the other day as this is the first set of round wounds I ever bought in 40 years I always used flat wound up to a few years ago then switched to GHS Pressure wounds.( Which I Love) . But, I read that Rounds cuts through the Mix with a heavy drummer much better. I play In a Elvis Touring Band ( and other Tribute artists) and our drummer is a monster. Well, I put theses strings on yesterday and thought they sound great. But, I'm getting a clicking noise when playing. If i tap the strings a bit to hard i get a click. Nothing is hitting the frets its like the strings are to sensitive or something. This is on the plucking hand. Do I need to learn a new technique or is it the strings that I have to get use to?

Stainless steel rounds can produce certain noises you may not used to hearing from flats or Pressurewounds, especially when they're brand new out of the package. My suggestion would be to let them settle first by playing them in to see if the clicking noise might subside.

DR Hi Beams, being SS rounds on a round core, do respond differently to your plucking from the way flats or PWs would due to their relatively flexible nature.

Yes that's another thing. They are flexible. Maybe a bit to much from what im used to. is there a roundwound that is not so flexible out there?

DR Lo-Riders would be a good alternative to the Hi Beams if you're finding them too flexible. The LRs are hex-core, so they're closer in overall playing feel to the Pressurewounds you've been playing. The LRs do come in both stainless steel and nickel-plated steel versions.

I'd suggest anything hex core. Your pressure wounds are hex cores so it'll be closer to that. I really like Ken Smith Rockmasters which are made by ghs. But anything hex core. It's definitely different on your fingers when you play roundcores. I've tried hi beams too. They are cool strings but they came off too hollow sounding. I like a good solid meaty tone with some bite and mid range.
