cliff burton's style

anyone know what scales cliff burton used for his solos? i figured out his tone, and now i'm trying to figure out his style..

Minor arpeggios and pentatonic scales mostly.

Yeah, minor pentatonics and minor scales in general.

Cliff also used a lot of wah and distortion to get his unique tone.

I think I remember reading a Kirk Hammet interview that said Cliff was very into using the mixolydian mode too for his solo's.

Cliff knew his theory very well. I am sure he was well versed in a variety of scales and modes.

Side note - I am reading a book about him right now and am very surprised as to how big his influence on Metallica was. I knew it was big....didn't know it was THAT big! Cool.

That book is "To Live Is To Die - Life and death of Cliff Burton" right? It's a great read, everything you can possibly know about Cliff is in there!

^^^^ Exactly. There are guys quoted in the book that were around Cliff and the band at the time that say if Cliff wasn't into something it just didn't happen. He wasn't a jerk but James, Lars, Kirk just respected Cliff's judgement so much that they didn't go against him very often.

A retorical question but you really have to wonder what Metallica would be like today if Cliff hadn't been killed. I can still remember hearing the news announcement on the radio the day of his death.
