Climate Change NOT Debunked

You forgot Option C) Colonize Mars!

Unless there's a child in front of you waving an empty sippy cup, "Want some more Kool-Aid?" is an insult rather than an observation.

Wanting to f with my world because it happens to be the latest fad is the insult. If someone goes around preaching an "I want to f with your world" message, they need to have a much thicker skin than a KoolAid reference can penetrate. And they had better have their facts straight. This isn't a fad, and it isn't a game. It's serious business.

I think you're really lacking in perspective here. You've called those on the other side of your argument anti-capitalists, thieves, stoners, Kool-Aid drinkers, radicals and people following the latest fad (did I get them all?). And yet you were offended when I said I wanted what you were smoking--and now you want others to grow a thicker skin?

More importantly, there are many on the other side of the argument who take this matter very seriously from both a scientific and business perspective. And many of them believe that our world has already been "effed with" plenty. Feel free to disagree with their methods and conclusions, but looking down your nose at them and pretending they're all people just killing time between Burning Man festivals would be a big mistake on your part.

Nah, I wasn't offended at the smoking thing. I was just saying that was in the same vein as the KoolAid thing, and neither one of them is really a big deal in my book--just a way of speaking. And for the record, I have not "called those on the other side" all those things. I have specifically described some in one way and others in another way. To state it as you did is a bit disingenuous.

I know personally plenty of people who would describe themselves as anti-capitallst and radical, and freely admit to indulging in the sweet herb. You are from Chicago, you must know what I mean. I don't even have a problem with them. I think they are misguided and I disagree with a lot of what they believe, but at least they are honest about their views, unlike Al Gore & Co. They are also frequently fun to hang with, so long as they don't confuse disagreement with hate.

I've also talked to plenty of KoolAid drinkers and fad followers who can chant the slogans, but beyond that--nothing. And there are a hoard of people like this, because the brainwashing is so relentless in the schools, media, arts, entertainment, etc. They are clueless about the issue, and clueless about the consequences of what they espouse. Please forgive me if I grow a bit impatient with these folks.

As for thieves (liars, hypocrites, etc), I reserve that for the crooks at the top. I generally loathe this type of people.

And don't get me wrong about environmentalism. I don't want to live on a damaged, polluted planet. I have always lived a greener than average lifestyle, though I'm not a kook about it. Unlike Al Gore, I don't use much energy and I don't produce much waste. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle has meaning in my life. I was into alternative energy, transportation and construction before many TB'ers were born. I just don't think the movers and shakers at the top of the [DEL]Global Warming[/DEL] Climate Change movement are concerned about climate change at all. After a few decades, you just come to recognize the tactics of the liars and thieves that are pulling the strings, and this whole climate change thing stinks to high heaven. It's the same load of BS over and over. Create a "crisis", jam a "solution" down our throats. And like another recent debacle, is it measured, sensible action? No, it's a grand, comprehensive power grab. And we have to do it now! Tomorrow may be too late!

So I propose again as an example, does anyone really think Al Gore gives a flying **** about the planet, or is he concerned primarily about Al Gore and his allies? Is it possible that there is nothing at the root of it but greed, lust for power, and callous disregard for any who get hurt in the process?

You seem like a reasonable guy Greg. I'm sorry if I offended you. I enjoy discussions with people who don't see exactly eye to eye with me. If someone agrees completely, what's the point of discussion? I feel a bit more strongly about people who seek to use me, or steamroll me. And I grow annoyed with dupes and silly people, whichever side they happen to be on, when they chime in on important matters. Maybe this is arrogance on my part. But seriously, there can't be anybody still reading this post...

^I read quickly, it wasn't that bad.

But I still don't think you can apply the "Al Gore's just making a power grab" argument seriously. Why do you think the opposition is opposing it? Its all just one big power grab.

Beyond that, and in regards to messing around with the planet(f'ing with your world, as you put it), though, you can't seriously only be taking issue with the climate control people...

Unless you're fighting for your God-given right to drive a Hummer onto a private, coal powered steamboat, or something similar.

The only thing you can say you know about Al Gore's motives is that you are suspicious of them.

I couldn't disagree more. When a man goes out of his way to promote the compulsion of a lifestyle on others, and this lifestyle produces huge profits for him, while he himself lives just the opposite and flaunts it, his motives are fairly obvious. He is just like the TV preacher who makes millions off a "ministry" attacking sexual sin while he frequents prostitutes. In fact I have more sympathy for that Preacher, because at least the people giving to his "ministry" have a choice. Al's picture is found in the dictionary under the definition of "Elitist Scum" because he lives likes he's better then everyone else and it's his job to tell everyone else how to live. He demands sacrifice while he wallows in excess. In all sincerity if you REALLY believed in Global Warming, would you be living the way he lives? Not a chance in the world! He'd be riding a bicycle to speaking engagements if he REALLY believed.

Does this disprove Global Warming? No, no more then a sinful preacher disproves the Gospel. And yes, there are people like Ed Begley, Jr. Whose lifestyles reflect their beliefs. But I just have a little tip for the Al Gores of the world and their buddies. I can't hear a word you say, the roar of your private jets, the revving of your chauffeur driven limousines, and the humming of your power lines feeding your mega mansions is drowning you out.:ninja:

Anyone doing anything on a large scale is subject to criticism and there are probably dozens of ways they could do it so that some people are satisfied that their motives are as altruistic as they want them to seem. The minute they sate one 'side' another will point out the flaws, however...

But if you know for a fact that Al Gore is only doing what he's doing for self-serving reasons, doesn't believe in what he's promoting and is, like a fallen preacher, only trying to "get his", I suppose I stand corrected.

I always believed it is best to lead by example. Al Gore and party are about as far from this as possible.

I agree. While his execution may be flawed, that's still not evidence that he's doing what he's doing for himself. There has been a lot of clutter tossed into the discussion designed to simply malign the messenger and dilute the message. It's tactical.

My comment is that you cannot say you know for sure what his motives are and if all you are doing is using low-hanging fruit like Al Gore and his apparently contradictory method of messaging - then tossing in speculative chatter about his 'Elitistness' and greed - you're really not doing anything other than heating the air - more. :ninja:

Recent events have made me very skeptical anything the government does is for the right reasons. I feel this way about not only Mr. Gore but just about everyone in power these days. YMMV

It's far easier to bash public figures than it is to discuss the details and nuances of these topics. It's a lot more fun and makes people feel better about themselves if they can point at someone like Al Gore or __________ and say things like what are being said here.

OK - so Al Gore is a money grubbing, self-interested global warming alarmist. Ed Begley Jr. is not. Do either one's methods of raising awareness about global warming nullify the topic? Sure, they both provide convenient targets for simple bashing/praise - but the topic is the topic whether Al Gore's a charlatan or not. Pointing at Al and saying "Look! It's Al Gore and he's a self-interested jerk!" is still not an argument against global warming - as nice as that would be if it were for some.
