clip light?

i remember some people saying that it is okay to run your amp when it is just about to clip like the light is on a littttle bit.

i have a qsc plx1202 and is it alright if i clip the amp a little or is that not good i know some amps the clip lights come on really early is this one of them? or when i see that red should i turn down right away. i usually dont need that much power but if i need it i just wanna know how loud i can go.

and help would be greatyl appreciated!!

First, you should wait more than an hour before bumping a thread.

Second, clipping tube amps is fine, IMO clipping a solid state amp (which your PLX is) is bad. People do it, but it is bad. You need a more powerful amp if you are clipping the 1202 (or else you need to run it bridged or into a lower impedance load, which will give you more volume without clipping).

What about if he is clipping a tube pre into a solid state power amp?

alright, yea i dont clip often i run the 200 watts of each channel into the top and bottom of an 810 so its loud enough for most anything.

im gunna see how bridged works out its about 1200 watts bridged at 4 ohm so thats more then enough power.

thanks for the help. i def wont clip this thing not that i did that much in the first place. but thanks again for the help!

It depends on where the clip light is sensing the clipping. Now, most bass amps that have a clip light have it to set the PRE amp level. For example, when you set the gain on an Eden, the recommended process is to set the gain until the clip light just flashes occasionally. But that's just sensing the pre-amp.

If the power amp's clip lights are coming on regularly, you need more power or more speakers (to move more air) or both.

i think the clip is just overall power going out cause i if i have the preamp cranked but the poweramp low it doesnt clip.

i turned it over to bridge mono and the signal lights are only on about half and it is pumping out loooouuuud volumes so i think from now on il just run it mono and not push it that hard so i dont overwork the 810. even though i heard you can drive these things to hell and back and they will be fine.
