Clip-On Tuners --- best and cheapest

Had the same annoying problem. I cut two little squares of black, friction type, electrical tape for where your thumb and finger rest. Problem solved.

I've had my Snark SN-8 for at least a year now, use it with my upright during concert band rehearsals, no problems, no breakage - but I am gentle with it.

When I'm using an amp, I put one of these in the tuner out jack:

Not a clip-on, obviously, but I wanted to plug it - it's super quick and accurate, very handy.

I have two Snark SN-5s that get goofy in even semi-loud situations. The reading gets jumpy and even reads the wrong string letter with the other strings damped. I don't see a mic on them anywhere. Other that that, they are great since I fixed the slippery-finger problem (see two posts up).

Funny this thread got dredged back up...I was just using my Snark, and noticing how it's gotten less sensitive than it used to be. Battery still powers it up fine, but I have to move it occasionally because it'll just stop responding to the notes. Anyone else have this problem? Does it need a fresh battery when that happens? I hope not...those little flat batteries are a pain to deal with!

I little side note on those batteries. Avoid the bargains on Amazon and ebay (such as 25 for a few dollars) because they are old and most of their power is gone. I bought one of those deals and tried several in my Snark; the display was very dim and the batteries would die in a day or two. I then bought six Panasonics on Amazon for about $12 and it's a huge difference. You get what you pay for. Penny wise and... and on and on.

I bought a Joys off Ebay for $4 and free shipping from Asia on a whim just to see if they work....by god it works like a champ and saves me a ton of time on the strobe for basic setup.

Just received a Planet Waves PW-CT-12 NS Mini. This is great. Although, I have a couple Snarks (which are terrific), I like the Planet Waves better because I can leave it attached all the time and it's out of the way. We'll see how it acts in loud situations.

I bought an Intellitouch on clearance from Guitar Center last week. Literally worked for five minutes before becoming flaky, turning off and on (was testing on acoustic guitar, not electric or bass). I had never used one before, while it worked I was digging the concept.

Planet Waves Mini FTW. I've had one mounted semi-permanently on each of my basses for the past couple of years. No problems, and I've only changed a couple of batteries during that time.

Quite honestly I never had any problems with the clip on Fender makes. Its simple, chromatic and tunes up to 5 different instruments. The LCD is easy to read and works very well in noisy rooms. I would still use mine all the time if I didnt have a TC polytune mini. Only cost about $16 too. Great tuner.

I keep my Snark mostly attached to my acoustic (which spends its time on a stand) that needs tuning daily due to weather changes. I just have it curl under the tuners near the A/D strings to keep it out of the way. Works fine for me. I use it for my bass before going out to play with our classic rock jam band.

I've enjoyed my Snark SN 8 very much, especially for the price, however the contrast of the screen is a little low and one of the rubber clamp pads keeps falling off.

I love my Snark SN2. It's a little slow when tuning low E or drop D but for $10, I'm not complaining. It gets more use than my boss TU3 pedal. The battery is still kicking after three months. I generally use it for 1-2 min a day.

I just talked to CS at D'Addario and they started shipping Monday. He said to wait a week or so; some outlets may still ship the present, older stock. Price will be the same (this is, apparently, a replacement). The Micro screen is about 2/3 as high as the older Mini screen.

Pedal board space is at a premium, don't think I can reserve one spot for a tuner much longer.
I do believe a couple of those NS Micro tuners are in my future.
