Double Bass Clip on Tuners

I've bought a bunch of the Snark tuners over the years, prolly close to twelve or so. I've only had one fail on me- most likely a cold soldier joint inside- it just stopped working one day- no visible damage.

Why twelve? I keep one with each instrument, and I've given several away as gifts to family and friends- all of which are still working as far as I know.

They are a little hard on batteries- but I like them! I've never had a problem with it reading low strings either, be it an E or a C.

Sorry some of y'all are having troubles with them!

I've probably got a dozen or so. I keep them in each instrument case, amp case, on my desk, in my car, etc. I ordered a few dozen batteries off ebay and have 3-4 in each case where the tuners live so I won't be without. I have only had one break at the clamp. I just positioned it where I wanted it pointing and set it with epoxy. It has been working that way just fine for a year and a half. Might just be the best $9 I ever spent.

I put it on the side of the pegbox on the upright and on the top of the headstock on the bg. I can roll my volume off and retune onstage with an insanely loud rock band, so it must be REALLY noisy where guys can't use them in a live situation. I always get the cheap red or blue ones and I love them! It's a drag that they don't work for some guys.

BTW - just a dab of silicone under the rubber feet will keep them on forever.

I tried the NS mini tuner for a few months (clipped to the peg head) and it worked OK.
However I have gone back to the Snark SN-8....clipped to the e side bridge below the adjuster. Reads every note well and gives me a bit more accuracy than the mini-tuner.
I have not had to replace the battery in the Snark since I bought it and used it for several weeks the first time around.

+1. Except I only have seven. Whooooops. Six. I gave one to my guitar player last night. Works on a B easily.

Sorry to go so wickedly OT, but I must say how beautiful the Pedulla in your avatar is! I also have a Pentabuzz, but mine sports solid midnight blue paint that shows no wood figuring- except where the paint is worn or damaged that is. It's evolved into an "SRV Relic" of sorts over the last twenty five years!

Carry on!

hey there,

does any one know if theres any difference between NS mini(to the right) and NS micro(to the left\top of ythe picture) tuners from d.addario? Ive had an NS micro for a while and i like it but it has some issues picking the notes on different basses, especially with gut strings. I've been doing a lot of outdoor gigs with my bass strung GDA plain guts so i need to quickly tune. I have seen an NS mini tuner on my friends' Rubner 5er and he said it picks low B just fine but that would be Spiro Mittel strings not guts. I was wondering wheter an NS micro is more of a guitarists type.

Don't waste your money. Get a TC Clip tuner. It's hands above most anything thing else out there right now. Quick, accurate, and can track a Butterfly fart. (eh)
Works great on the upright.

I've got an NS micro....somewhere. It was just OK on the electric and didn't work worth a damn on my upright. The TC however tracks as well as a good pedal tuner like a PolyTune or Sonic Research....by far the best clip-on out there right now. The folding clip and screen that flips its horizon make it very versatile to use on different instruments and possible to leave clipped on some instruments in the case. Battery life is good too. It's a little fussy finding the open E string on my upright but it finds the harmonic no problem.
