Close to Parting With Ampeg 410hlf

I could definitely see the HLF as being a great cab for outdoor gigs. All those extra lows and reduced mids would end up about even out there whereas indoors they're just too much.

I play outside quite a bit, and voiced my diy speakers to sound good out there without having to boost a bunch of bass...works great for me. They're not as bottom heavy, or I should say not as mid shy, as an HLF, just lean a little bit that way. Mine are still useable indoors :p . But the HLF would be a great choice for a big, open air festival stage, or even small patio stage, with no backdrop. Just having them sit outside would pretty much turn everything I don't like about them into things I do like about them. ;)

Sounds like you have the Pro Neo 410hlf, no? Except for the Vietnam part, that's what it sounds like (Pro Neos are made in the US). If it's a regular SVT 410hlf, it should be 4 ohms already. But if it's 8 ohms, I'm afraid you're out of luck rewiring it to 4.

Anyway, the 610hlf is a good compromise between the huge lows of the 410hlf and the rolled off lows of the 810e. Having said that, I prefer the 810e.

I feel your pain. I really don't like Ampeg's ported cabs. At least that's what I think is the issue. After some experimentation this past weekend, I concluded that the 410he, used in pairs with an SVT, is as close to a transportable 8x10 with a very close sound that one can find.

I also ordered a Barefaced 69er after testing it out in a session. They are worth looking into.

Other options that I think would work great are the berg nv610.

An option I am curious about is a pair of the 210avs.

thedudebrah... let me know how it goes. Sounds like it could go really well for ya. Good luck, man! I'm definitely curious about other cabs now. Those two 410hes sound incredible. Would love to try that. My 410hlf is the Vietnam model by the way.

I picked it up used. The original owner told me it started out as a standard SVT 410HLF made in Vietnam and he later decided to swap out the original speakers for the Ampeg Neos. I used to have a 610hlf (and loved it) but it was too heavy for me and I prefer something smaller I can move around myself. Looks like I'll soon be adding a 112 or 115 for bigger gigs where the 4x10 can't cover it all.
