Closing your classified ads.

Always curious, I set out to figure this out...

Not as easy as it was but the thread can be closed by editing the original post. Go to "More Options" then you can uncheck the "Open" Thread Status box.

Alternately, or in addition to that, you can click on "Thread Tools" at the top of the page and select "Edit Title". There, you can click on the title prefix and change it to "Sold" or "Traded" or "no longer available".

It's probably most effective to perform the second one, marking the thread "Sold", "Traded" or "no longer available" since that puts the nice red label on the tread title.

I do this .. and it is very annoying that some do not. They will spend days, sometimes weeks bumping their thread but once it sells they don't even have the courtesy to update the thread... Some other poor sap comes along a few weeks later thinking it is still available. ENNNNHHHH WRONG. What is just as bad is when they don't even answer the posts/PMs after the item sells and they never update it. It is not hard to do and truth be told with this new forum SW it is easier than ever to effectively communicate when it comes to tranactions involving people's hard earned money. For the mpost part though most of my TB experiences have been either good or very good.

I've noticed an increase of this since the new format was introduced. It certainly has not streamlined the process. If you have to read the instructions it is poor design. People will always do the easiest thing, which is nothing. Especially after dicking around trying to navigate this. The learning curve should be pretty much over, right?

Yeah did this option go away? I see the option to change status to sold is different but the close thread option is gone.

I am wondering about this as well... I just went to close a sold bass thread (and I DID mark it sold!), but the option's no longer available...
So I was all like "What's up with that?!?!"

Fair enough. Marking the threads as SOLD etc.. makes more sense and is more readily apparent than being closed anyway. It was just confusing when a normal step of an item no longer being available was no longer available.

I had problems leaving feedback on a closed classifieds thread once because I had not posted in the thread before buying the item.

Are thread authors still able to delete a for-sale thread?

Occasionally a reputable seller will get cold feet and cause a previously visible thread to disappear; annoying yet understandable. (Better to mark it "no longer available.")

OTOH, there appears to have been at least one recent case where a scammer--not a well known TB member--may have sold an item to multiple buyers and then deleted the thread. I sure hope that particular avenue has been blocked. And I urge caution in dealing with brand new members, particularly those who cross-post on a well known fee-based auction site.

I'm not totally positive on the ability of members to delete their own threads, but I believe they still can. I agree, it would be much better to simply mark an item no longer available.

We (moderators) are still able to see deleted threads, and can bring them back to being visible if need be.

If it's bothering you that bad, take it up with the admins.

I was simply clarifying that, yes, the ability to close threads has been removed in the classifieds.

Didn't mean to upset you so much. I'll try harder not to next time.

Ryan - Is there a way to prevent sold or no longer available threads from being bumped? I've seen several (including my own) that were marked as sold as subsequent comments such as "oh man, I wish I saw that earlier", etc. bump the sold thread. No biggie but its kind of annoying paying through bumped sold threads. Thanks!

The only reply that should be able to bump a thread to the top should be the original poster's.

However, I have noticed that this isn't always true on the mobile app. ......
