Well I had a lunch meeting today so if I go to GC it will be in a little while. In any case I'm loving everything about this bass and it's kinda fun just playing it unplugged.
The preamp compartment plastic cover is heavily textured, different from my LG5.
Being that the bass is made by hand it's fun to look at all the small details to see exactly how perfect it is. I bet Jimmy could pick up some things that could have been done better but I'm having a hard time. The skunk strip is unbelievable.
Where the binding meets the headstock is dead on and is just great work. The neck pocket is unreal...
There are two tiny dots on the back of the bass where the two pieces of ash meet, one is visible in the photo I took. I'm guessing that is part of the construction tooling (confirmed this with Jimmy).
I'm not sure I've ever spent this much time looking so closely at a bass, one of the advantages of being in the office I guess and after all the time and money I want to see it all. I even have a magnifying glass!
The bullet truss rod is done really nice, a little loosening of the A string gives complete and simple access. The head stock seems to be the new design, it seems a little wider and I'll be interested to compare it to my LG when I get home.
So awazing! And I haven't even plugged it in.

Back toward the nut the neck profile is slightly chunkier then the LG5. That is something Jimmy and I had talked about and was more true to the late 70s jazz basses.

Ahhh, yeah, if I ever get into an LM, I think I'd opt to let that one be unfaithful. I REALLY dig the profile on the LG. Then again, probably moot... I'm diggin' that LG so damn much that, despite the diffs, I just don't GAS for another AC. I guess Jimmy screwed up and made it too damn good, huh?

Actually I am getting "some" work done. I will be out the door ASAP.....Based on the volume and clarity I think I am going to be VERY happy.
Not the lightest bass I've owned
, that recent Geddy looking UV70 I had was under 9 lbs. (just came up for resale in the classifieds BTW) In any case that bass had a hollowness to it. I can tell this is it.Being that I gave up the wedding band, many nights of 3+ set gigs is behind me and the weight is no problem as long as the bass is killing!
ALSO: I had shipped Jimmy a set of Hi Beams and dunlop dual design strap locks which is how the bass arrived. The I gig bag is pretty nice as well.
I know. It's just my excuse for not completing the lg-5, kbp-5, lm-5 trifecta.

Your right these basses are unreal. I am trying to talk myself into being a ONE
bass guy. I've sold all my other electric basses and if I can bring myself to part with the LG I can have a life long monogamous relationship with the LM.

I am a 1 bass guy right now and have been for about the past 9 months or so but that's because of finances. Eventhough I would love to find "my" bass that I play for everything by choice, it would still be nice to have a small collection at home or the studio.
She has been officially plugged in. So far so good, slightly different then what I thought I'd hear but very cool....Will fill you all in later got go back down stairs while the baby is awake..

Didn't spend a ton of time but I am really digging it. I was afraid this bass was going to be a sizzly brightmare and it's just about the opposite. Fairly polite but very clear and articulate. As I would have it I have a bright LG (Honduran board) and a warm LM. There are some similarities but the mids are very different and it's pretty cool.
I have a friend of mines Marcus Miller 4 in the basement (a great one) and that is a fun comparison. The Marcus bass is heavier then the LM by a decent margin and it's a 4. The Marcus is much brighter with more bight, to achieve a similar tone with the LM I am pumping about 40% treble boost and rolling off the tone 20%. It's the perfect fingerstyle tone thus far with those settings. Great warm and clear slap tone with the treble flat no tone rolled off with 20% bass boost.
I'm sure my opinions will change a few times as my ear get's used to it. It's amazing that the majority of ash/maple J basses I've played just feel a little bit tighter then a 60s spec. Maybe tight isn't the right term but that's the best I can come up with.
