I have massive respect for touring musicians not only for their musical talents but for being able to survive the road. 12 years ago I had a job that put me on the road 3 weeks out of the month both internationally and domestically. The first 1.5 was fun but after that it was survival. I forged on for 4 years until I was so burnt out I had to quit.

Massive respect for touring musicians.

+1 it's a hard slog!! Not that I've done ANYTHING close to what U R talking about, but just from touring here & gigging every nite... phew is RIGHT!!!

Last nite had our regular Funk/soul gig (band 'SUGARTRAIN')
RIG:- Traynor YBA200 > SADOWSKY SA410 (Bergantino HS410)

& I used my Fender Reggie Hamilton STD sig Jazz with flats in 1st set-where we usually do more old style stuff, then the AC EUT5 with SIT rounds- in the 2nd & 3rd sets.
Was great- I hadn't used a 'standard' 410 (?!?!??) for ages.

I'd been using my Mesa WA scout 12" (8ohm) & Berg AE112 as an ext cab- at this gig lately, but thought I'd try the new to me SA410.
Damn the EUT5 shone in this spot!! Looking forward to trying the EUT5 > LMII > SA410. I got the SA410 for a good price so am just 'trying it on for size' for I MAY just be tempted to grab a Bergie AE212

It can wear you out.. but i am as selective as i can be. and even that can wear on you..
I was doing a tour a few years ago.. and we had our own plane.. that was good...But then we did the next tour and we flew commercial.. I tell ya , i would have rather done the Tour Bus with the crew than the commercial Airlines.. at least you get to sleep alot on a tour bus where the commercial. you get done with gig . car takes you to hotel.. then you have to get up early to get plane to next city. go straight form airport to sound check and do it again.. they only way that didnt go bad was they only did 3 shows a week and stayed at four seasons hotels.. Thats better than home!!
But life on the road,, well, i love being home with my dogs..there are few guys that poke in here from time to time that know what im talking about..
Hey, But it beats flippin burgers right? And we all need to be thankful for what we have..

Yes Sir, so true. Thanks for sharing your experience. That must have been great having a private plane. I always thought the pluses of traveling was the thrill of getting to a new city, taking in the vibe of the place, being able to see how others live, and meeting new people. And certainly it is but, there's nothing like being home and walking the dog after dinner with my wife.

I'm sure you could write a book on this and may know about these or even have even better options but, I've found that any chance I can stay at a B&B, I do because they usually have home cooked meals - something I've always coveted on the road. Also if you're not already staying at better places, I've found that Embassy Suites have a great free breakfast where they'll make you any type of omelette you want as well as a free cocktail hour at 5 PM for beer or house wine. Plus the added living room is nice.

Every September 11 since 9-11 , any bass that Jimmy made on that day, he would do some sort of commemorative thing on that bass or guitar.
He just sent this to me and I would love to share it with you.
He hand drew the Towers in his art program and the Laser inscribed it on the Neck Plate..

Jimmy: "Since 9/11 all the instruments I built on that day I made some sort of reference to the twin towers. I used to hand etch them in. Last night I drew them in my art program which gave me a slightly better detail to laser etch into the back plate."

I posted almost the same pic from December playing my
KBP5. I'm in the same room...same guy (Tim) in the
background. But I'm in shorts and my "Mandels".

I'm even bigger than you... The way those shirts fit I don't think even an XXL will do it for me. Right now my A-C shirt is just a wall deco.

BUT, I have Jimmy's blessing to get some made for me... So they don't simply fit, but fit the way I want them to.

So true, I'm writing this message from the continental club at the Houston airport while we are on a layover. We played last night in Cary, NC and had a 3:15 am (central) wake up call and 3:45 lobby call so we could be at the airport by 4:00 for a 5:05 am flight to Los Angeles. We are on our layover right now and then we fly out to LA to play at a conference tonight then leave super early tomorrow to head back home to Houston for a few days.

I love it, but we have some of the earliest wake up calls possible! But as Kirk said, it beats flipping burgers.

Here's to hoping my AC is safe for another flight!

Ryan.. Good to see you. You travel alot so i have a question for you.
I have been getting some flack lately on my fly dates.. Some FA says Its OK to hang my gig bag in the closet and other make me check it.. In a gig bag.. ughhh
Im doing some shows in Monte Carlo and paris in a few weeks.
Do you check your bass in ATA case, or gig bag it on international flights.
I have an Anvil flight case but it is so heavy for these one offs for me to carry..
I was thinking of getting a Pelican Molded Mil Spec case or a Gator ATA TSA..
Does anyone have experiences with the Pelican of Gator flight cases? Pelican looks killer .. it is actually a rifle case... No pun intended.
I never had a problem in years of flying till recent.. American Airlines has always been great. But we are flying KLM.
Any info on flight cases that are light would be of help..
