Club Alleva Coppolo (Part 7)

If my RA is representative of that spec of bass (which I assume it is), I'm actually quite blown away by the impact of the alder versus maple ash body on the AC basses, since, for example, on the Sadowsky basses, I don't really notice that much difference as long as the board is constant.

Interesting how different the RA sounds from the LM to my ear!
I think this is what you meant to say. :)

Correct. Thanks for the typo fix.

Amazing how different they sound. I'm quite surprised, since again, I don't notice this type of difference in the Sadowsky basses (and I think Roger even says body woods on his basses aren't a big difference in the tone).

I guess all this stuff works together in a complicated way, and I guess as I've posted many times, it's very difficult to attribute a general tone characteristic across different lines/brands/bass designs to one design component (e.g., body wood, fretboard material, pickup placement, weight, scale length, etc., etc.). It all depends on the combination of all this stuff!

Definitely. I found your conversation with narud to be particularly interesting. :)

I assumed Joe was trying to pick up a gay cabaret gig or maybe sub for some Frenchy on Cirque du Soleil.

Sorry for the derail Alleva lovers. They are great basses "for me to poop on." (kidding)

if gay cabaret helps me pay some bills im all for it. im contemplating getting a guitarron to get in touch with my mexican'ness and join a mariachi band. then ill have some more free dough for various jimmy coppolo products.

Hey guys! I had a blast on my first gig with the RA5. Big, boomy room, hollow-wooden stage (the typical hell I go through at many of the gigs I play), but it sounded GREAT with the very tight Berg AE410/F1 rig. I played the entire evening with everything set virtually flat, except for the slight upper mid cut (probably 3db down at 800hz) on my F1 that I use with all my basses with that very upper mid present AE410, and just a slight (maybe 20%) bass boost on the RA for some tunes. It was punchy and grindy. It, like the LG, doesn't really do the 'sizzle' like the LM (duh), but it has much more percussive attack and 'quickness' than my LG, so again, a VERY nice voicing in-between the LG and LM.

The guys in the band (a couple of whom are very tuned into bass guitar tone) really, really dug it. It was the perfect combination of punch and growl in that difficult room and busy mix (10 pieces, including a horn section and too many damn singers!).

WOW...sounds interesting...would love to hear such a hybrid.
Must be nice to have such a stable to choose from...

Sweet bass but a crazy price!
Yeah, and don't forget the $250 shipping from Austrailia! OUCH! There are a couple pix of the back, so whatever the nicks are (one of which MIGHT be visible on the back of the upper horn in the last pic), they aren't too bad in general terms, but yeah, at this price level, he should be posting a lot more big detailed pix.

Hey guys, I haven't posted/been on TB a while, sadly, because my GAS has been quenched (I think temporarily) and you know why :D. Lately since I re-joined our church P.T. after a half year sabbatical I went right ahead and started using the LG5, and ever since then... my MTD has been sidelined and almost permanently sorry to say [it's been demoted to being my practice bass almost by default since the Alleva came into existence for me]. I recently got around to actually re-stringing the MTD and played it again (for a Sunday Worship set) maybe 2 Sunday's ago, and my friend (electric player) keeps saying "the Alleva is a million times better!" lol (his words not mine) and yeaa for the music we play I do have to say the LG5 DOES fit very VERY nicely.

I know there are SEVERAL very nice MTDs up already but mine may be up in the FS section soon enough. And I also may be in line to pick up an LM5 if anyone here's willing to sacrifice for a brother in need :hiding: hahah... pretty pleaaase :(:atoz::help:

Anyways, I just recently got new pictures (of my rig and Alleva) that my friend took from our Youth Group Senior Banquet that our College/E.M. team played for so here's some eye-candy for you all!

PS: These were taken AFTER the night was over and after all the clean up. My friend asked if I wanted new/updated pictures of my rig/gear, so I basically re-setup everything after having packed everything away and THAT is why I neither have my Bayou instrument cable plugged in nor my strap strapped onto the bass.

PS 2: During the night, I realized/witnessed the fact that CAOJ really does look different depending on the lighting and what not but the two bass pictures probably don't really do the finish justice as the pictures look a little saturated. But regardless, I love the way my bass looks, feels, plays, sounds, etc etc etc.

Everytime I see your bass I am reminded how much I LOVE fingerboard binding. It just makes the bass look perfect! Pure understated elegance and class all the way man. You got a great bass! Perhaps my favorite Alleva so far.

Smokin bro looks just like mine...I agree that the color really changes under different lighting situations...
Same day just different side of the couch...
