Thing is, I think it's actually been that way for a while, tho. Funny, I just communicated with someone else who didn't know that was there. Maybe the site needs to be reviewed by a focus group for usability. Sounds like it's not laid out too intuitively.

Played the KBP5 at rehearsal on Thursday night. Plays great, I love the feel. It's a bit bassier or bottom heavy than I thought it would be, but heck -- I play in a gym It could be the strings, not sure what is on there. I suppose they could be Jimmy's nickels though. I'm going to have to monkey with the pickup height as well, the A string is louder than the rest. Trivial of course, just need to sit down and do it tomorrow. Maybe I'll string it up with a set of DR low-riders.

Any suggestions for strings for the KBP5?

I have TI flats on mine - it sounds GREAT and I get a lot of requests for that bass. I also like the feel of them, so it is a win/win for me.

I have Sadowsky nickels on my LG-5 but will probably be putting Black Beauties on it for something different.

I have TI flats on my Yamaha BB415 and I'm not too keen on them. Probably the bass/pickup. Have any sound samples? I'd take them off the Yamaha and try them on the KBP5, but the bass is loaned out. I think I have a set of Chromes around here somewhere, some Sadowsky steels, some D'Adarrio XL170s, and some DR low-riders. I could probably find a set of Fender flats local.

Thats what I was thinking,,,bought a set. Bad G string. Really bad defective. Called Labella and they were great, sent me out a new one. SAME THING.


I couldn't believe it. I didn't believe it. I brought my bass to a set up guy .He had a set of fenders so on they went and no more problems.

Since I have a set of chromes on the shelf, I'll try those. If I don't like 'em, I'll try some Fenders. Too bad I can't pull the BB415's strings, but the G I think is on the other side of the headstock. I'm going to miss the P bass slap sound though heheh.

+1 for the Fender flats - if they are anything as good as the 4 string sets which feel amazing. Did not like either LaBella or TI flats when I had my KPB5.

Played the KBP5 + Chromes at church this morning, sounded pretty good to me. Definitely sits in the mix a lot different than the LG5. I even like the slap tone with the flats, really old-school there. The gage I have are medium-lights, the G sounds a little thin to me, but everyone else says it sounds good relative to the other strings. It'll probably sound a bit better once it breaks in.

One thing I noticed about the vintage style bridge is that it doesn't have grooves in the plate to keep the saddles straight. The B saddle started going kind of crocked, I guess because I moved the string over a notch or two toward the E string to align it in between the pickup poles. Not a gripe, just something I noticed.

I love the weight, it balances perfect. It plays just as well if not better than my LG5, unbelievable.
