I spent a little time with my new KBP5 today. Not much time though, unfortunately. I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow, and if I can find a few extra minutes I'll try for some sounds clips.
Jimmy told me it turned out awesome, and he's right! The first thing I noticed is I hate the packaging, shredded paper is messy! The second thing I noticed is the new case, I dig the new protec case much more than Jimmy's old one. The third thing I notices is, oh crap, I forgot to buy straploks. hah.
The bass is noticeably lighter than my LG5, it has to be by more than a pound. I'm guessing this one is in the 7-8 lb range. The finish is fantastic, and neck is nice and comfy -- at this point ACs just feel like "home." The bent plate bridge is nice, nothing too fancy, but fits the vibe certainly. I will probably miss the quick release feature.
It sounds like a P, but with a 5th string. The B, just like on the LG5, is a natural extension of the E string. It doesn't get all weirdly huge like other 5 strings I have owned. This thing has BALLS, I wasn't expecting that. Every other P I have owned has been kind of mellow and tame, but this one is growly and punchy. It can be mellowed with the tone control. I don't think this one will get buried in a busy mix.

Do eeet! I've always wanted to love P basses, but never could find that really spoke to me. I'm considering taking it to church tomorrow, but it'll be tough giving up the LG5 -- especially after I just got done stringing it with DR low riders. heh.

Have you tried them before? If so, cool. I find them stiff and tacky new and just stiff after they break in. I much prefer the Ken Smiths. I have a set on a LG and it just rules!

Thing is, I think it's actually been that way for a while, tho. Funny, I just communicated with someone else who didn't know that was there. Maybe the site needs to be reviewed by a focus group for usability. Sounds like it's not laid out too intuitively.

That is a fine looking bass you have there. A 1600 is always nice to hear and see. A friend of mine has a nice 1600. Has the 70's spacing and sounds really good. I remember when Jimmy had his first shop at 1600 Broadway. Had a lot of nice basses. I would go to Sadowsky and Jimmys who were in the same building. That was some bass players haven. Roger then moved to Brooklyn and Jimmy moved closer to the 48th st musicians row. Thats when his basses started really taking off. But 1600 is a good name for that bass and I would imagine it meant something to Jimmy.
