Club Alleva Coppolo (Part IV)

Geez this thread is giving me GAS. I was just going through the pages and damn, Jimmy, or whoever paints his basses, has doing bursts down to a science. Nicest vintage sunburst I've seen hands down.

The best thing about AC basses is their tone and playability. I own an older jazz standard 4. I'd been gassing over Jimmy's basses for a while - just from their appearance and bought one used. I have to say - plugged in, in a band situation, they ooze class. I can honestly say ACs sound even better than they look.

In a bass world where plenty of brands look like Ferraris and sound like lawnmowers, AC basses look like Bentleys and sound like...Bentleys Nobody would call them cheap but it's a good feeling to spend money on a bass that delivers beyond it's looks.

It's changed the way I look at exotic, spalt topped, 19 band pre-amp, extended range, graphite reinforced, fanned fret, midi enabled, swiss army knife basses I'd rather just get a classic bass, beautifully built, with perfectly aged woods and watch it stay in fashion for the next 20 years.

I'm now off to check the calender for when my KPB4 will be finished

It must be something in the water...I am going to have to sell my Alleva 3 TS 4 banger too! I just got word that my Girlfriend will be back here in 2 weeks (from China) and we are possibly going to have to move. I have recently bought a lot of stuff and the Alleva has to go to both make room and help pay for some things. I will try and get some pics up but I wanted to put it out there here before I post a For Sale thread. This one is actually a little better than the one that Andrew got (if you can believe it) and I have battled back and forth over this decision because this is THE LAST bass that was made in the New York shop and it was THE last available Dalbergia Board that was not presold!!! I will post all the info on it in a little while with pics. I will be offering a HUGE discount off the new price to move it. This could be your only chance to get a Dalbergia boarded beauty like this ever! That is what really kills me! I KNOW I will never be able to replace it but I don't have a lot of choices here. Luckily I have an identical 5 in the works or I probably could not do this....PM for details if anyone is interested.

I played this next to my new Lakland Candy Apple Orange Juice US DJ4 and the Alleva was warm and old sounding just like it is supposed to be. The Lakland plays like a breeze and has great attention to detail and excellent fret work but you could tell the difference between the 2 blindfolded and deaf! The Alleva just has "IT". There is a livliness to this neck that I have never gotten with anything else and I attribute it to the Dalbergia and the overall job that Jimmy does on these. The DJ is a really nice bass and I endorse Lakland but the Alleva is in another class from everything else out there. I have a Sadowsky p that is the best P bass I have ever owned and the Alleva just takes things to another level! If you are even REMOTELY thinking of getting an Alleva jump on this and SAVE about $1,000 off the price of a new one. I won't give a price here but I will say it is a HUGE discount off the new price you would pay and AT LEAST $500 less than it should be! PM me with any questions!

Thanks! I hate to sell because this is it for the Dalbergia! I have a twin 5 in the works so that eases the pain somewhat. If I don't sell it pretty quickly I may change my mind! Actually, I'm not selling anything, just waiting on an LG-5 same exact specs as this... 3-tone burst, nitro, one of the last DN boards, vintage bridge. After playing the KBP-5 I just received, I'm even more excited about this next one.

Waaaaay off topic here... but where do you DR guys get your strings? I'm looking for the best price to go 2-4 sets at a time.
Also, do the Alleva's require the Long Scale because of the 5 in line headstock (for the G)?

I have a 5 just like it in the works...I also have a Sadowsky P, a US Lakland DJ4 (CAOJ!!), a Skyline Natural (Adam Clayton styled) DJ4 with Chi Sonic PUPS, and a Fretless 44-02 coming. The Alleva LG5 will be my one and only 5. I am doing a tour starting in February with a multiyear commitment and I don't want to take out more than I have to. I will be taking the LG5, the Sadowsky P, the 44-02 Fretless and at least one of the DJs. I should be able to cover most anything I need to with that group. I would hate to leave a $5,000 bass sitting at home! I have given serious thought to selling one of the others but I don't know what it would be....
