Congrats to you both! Ken, I spoke to Jimmy about that bass right after it was completed. He had that one and a sunburst LG sans pickguard on the site. I asked him about both of them and he said the sunburst was nice but the green one just sounds old. It will be that lovely 60's mojo for you!

I remember that picture. I always dug those thin pickup cover things... that's a cool look. I don't think Jimmy ever had any more of those made.

yeah, i first saw them on AtelierZ basses... but maybe only a 4 string i can't remember
I find those pic covers downright disturbing!
I don't use those covers myself. However, given how oversized Jimmy's pickups are (they are MUCH longer than most standard 5 string J pickups), I have a feeling the full sized 'classic' covers would look HUGE on those basses. So, I'm guessing that the skinny ones were an attempt to 'balance' to look. I don't think Jimmy offers them anymore anyway.

Well after much forum stalking, thinking, listening to Paul Turner of Jamiroquai, obsessing, and getting lucky on ebay, I can safely say that I own LG-5 #104, which I puchased a few months ago. It's Sooo AMAZING. Ken you're in for a treat because it appears our basses are identical twins. As far as I know, my bass is the Surf Green 2008 Namm bass shown above. I know that so many people have said it before but, I'm going to have this bass for the rest of my life. I had to sell about 2 and a half basses to get this one and I haven't even once looked back. Nice Job Jimmy! Anyways guys, I look forward to Gassing for more Allevas with you in the future!....Luke

What does "sound old" sound like? These days, when a lot of kids grow up with MPCs and 808s and the like, and don't even see real drums, anyone who actually plays an instrument (instead of sampling one, maybe off an old record, ironically), must sound old. I think you were just joking around but I'm really curious about what that might mean. And not just because if you sound old I probably sound even older.
WRT your new LG-5, it looks beautiful...I'm not generally a surf green fan but that one really is appealing: I understand perfectly why you went for it. I'm very interested in hearing what you think when you play it, since you're coming from maybe a brighter maple-board J-kind of place than I am (I played Ps with RW for many years) and that may give you a contrasting perspective.
I continue to be completely in love with my own Indian RW nitro-finished LG-5. I've also been quite happy so far with how well the nitro has been holding up (what, all of four or five months?). It's the first nitro-finished bass I've owned since I got my '60 P in the 70s (and it was already quite used), and I got this idea that nitro is more fragile than it really is. Of course, when Jimmy himself tells me, "It *will* crack"...
Anyway, congrats, and keep us informed on your relationship with your new bass.
