Hey Tom thanks for all the pictures earlier on p.60 I've been studying them for a while.

My new to me AC is out for delivery to my home unfortunately I am sitting in my office about 15 miles away, sometimes they double back in the evening if they don't I might be very unhappy this evening!

Yes another Oly white! Hopefully I have finally found the long lost 5 string brother to my Jo4. Many think the AC will surpass it and if it does I will be very very happy.

Interesting story. I recently was helping out a buddy who does freelance work like Ken does. I got to meet allot of guys over that short period and it was fun. Although my work schedule and family commitments and fishing addiction wouldn't allow that to happen regularly. Anyway allot of these guys were killer players, we got onto the topic of bass players and I was interested in who they thought was their favorite guy to play with or who they thought was incredible. It was an easy conversation because I am so far below these guys, anyway....

They all referred to guys like, I think he's from Queens and he plays a red bass or he's a heavy guy with a really old bass it's orange and black all chipped up (old sunburst). I was able to figure out who these guys were by the color of the bass, so I am the guy with the white bass....I had showed to a gig early and set up my natural/black Pg Lakland and walked away. When I walked up to play guys said I didn't know you were playing.

Hence my thought to buy another Oly white bass, I am not that memorable so I need all the help I can get!

While I'm not one to impart a ton of tone differences among different wood combinations, Jimmy said that the Indian RW was the 'quickest, hardest and brightest' of the RW's he uses, which kind of sealed the deal for me. I'm not a big fan of Nitro (due to the ease of chipping, etc.), but what the heck:D

After reading and reading the threads and ask you and Tommixx several times (thanks guys). Jimmy is making a standard 4 surf green w/ blocks and biding...

Sure It's gonna take a while to be built, but Jimmy said he couldn't wait to start building the bass... GAS is growing heheh

Like that surf green Ken, I think you should notice at least some differences from the LM after living with it.

All the new basses are looking great....and I'm still enjoying my LG after a year.

Congrats to the new owners.

Hey Ken,

Cool LG5 man! When I saw that one I was also quite blown away. I've recently seen some surf green instruments locally at a shop in town and the matching headstock just makes Surf green instruments "POP!" I think it's one of those things where they look better in person. Very cool you scored that bass. Can't wait to hear your reviews. Although I think we all know what to expect. (great report, similar to the LM5, maybe darker, more low mids yada yada yada) :D

:D... plus it will probably still rush the first couple of bars out of the bridge on most tunes. All my basses seem to do that, but I'll keep looking for one that plays perfect time:p Also, if anyone has a metronome that doesn't drag, I'm interested in that also!

:D :D :D Speaking of that, my basses seem to make all my solo's sound the same. i.e. same lame slap/funk section into a chordal comp style and then back to the head of the tune. I wonder if they'll ever make a bass that comes with more creative solo's and better chops? Wouldn't that be nice? :D

I think these awesome new basses will do the exact opposite, I don't know about you guys but I don't tend to pull my new bass out with a few method books and my metronome.

Rather I play a stupid 8 bar groove, look at the bass change a setting on either the bass or amp that even a bat couldn't hear and then play it again. Then I put the bass down and pick up a different one to do the same thing and see how different it sounds. Go back to my new bass and do it all over again until my wife tells me to come to bed.

So you have a really cool sounding bass and others can say, I never heard how clearly you were rushing and man that crappy solo punched right to the back of the room:bassist::bassist::bassist:

WRT your new LG-5, it looks beautiful...I'm not generally a surf green fan but that one really is appealing: I understand perfectly why you went for it. I'm very interested in hearing what you think when you play it, since you're coming from maybe a brighter maple-board J-kind of place than I am (I played Ps with RW for many years) and that may give you a contrasting perspective.

I continue to be completely in love with my own Indian RW nitro-finished LG-5. I've also been quite happy so far with how well the nitro has been holding up (what, all of four or five months?). It's the first nitro-finished bass I've owned since I got my '60 P in the 70s (and it was already quite used), and I got this idea that nitro is more fragile than it really is. Of course, when Jimmy himself tells me, "It *will* crack"...

Anyway, congrats, and keep us informed on your relationship with your new bass.

Hey Steve!

I was being a little 'tongue in cheek' about sounding 'old'. Many of the guys a play with in my freelance world are in their 20's, and I do start to feel a little 'out of it' sometimes. I really try to keep up with today's music, but it gets a bit overwhelming to me sometimes. I'll keep hacking away at it though, and I do work very hard to try to keep up with current tunes, styles and whatever. Thank god much of the hip hop and modern soul stuff is based on good old 70's grooves:D

I'm not sure what I will think about the nitro... but too late now:D

Yeah that's a good story, most of the time the folks I play with never notice if I have different gear, all they care about is that I show up which is always. I just thought it was cool you ended up with to great instruments with the same look. You have a gift for buying great basses. I've got at least one 'true' keeper.

I was actually very content and relatively gas free playing my JO4 until I came across a show that I needed a 5 string for. Wound up picking up a '08 Jazz V which is going to be next on the block. Then came the JO5, just can't fall in love with the 35" scale (otherwise a nice instrument) especially if I get called to a site reading gig.

If this AC lives up to my expectations I am pretty much cleaning house on instruments accept for my JO4. Then I am going to work on lightening the amp load, I've got great stuff but an amp diet will be my new years resolution.
