It has big bottom but also has a great snappy attack... Very clear on top but it is NOT harsh at all with throaty mids. Just very wide sounding.. and it is run passive.. I couldn't imagine if i had the preamp in it. I dont remember playing Indian RW on a J bass but I bet it would very very smooth and fast while having the smooth feel of RW and no finish on the FB..

I'll be putting Hi Beams on this when it arrives. I'm hoping it sounds and feels just like you are describing. I love my LM5 so much, that this will make a nice companion to it!

Man, that bass just speaks to me (that happened with my Harvest Gold LM also). Jimmy was very cool giving me the scoop on it (nitro, Indian RW board, made originally for a 'collector'). It was nice to speak with him in general also... what a cool cat!

Guys,

I received my brand new, gorgeous piano black KPB4 yesterday. It arrived in a Pro-tec congo case - which is great for me. I opened the box at my office and a couple of guys in my team (who know nothing about basses) went "Ooooooooh". :D
Theres nothing like a bass that makes an impact!

I spent 2 or 3 hours playing it last night through a GBE1200 and an EANM410. The clarity of the bass (it's alder with Indian rw) is astonishing. Theres a natural bump in it's tone from the C on the A string up to the F# that is almost like a bell ringing. I have never played a P bass where I could strum chords, play slap and then play fingerstyle with such ease. I have a 1.5 profile neck on the bass (Duck Dunn influence) and I was flying around the fretboard on it in no time.

I found I had to boost the bottom end slightly and roll off some low mids on my amp just to control my tone. Every bass/amp combo is different but this AC nearly zapped me out of my practise room at first. I'm used to trying to extract juice out of basses - I've never had a bass that starts with juice and can give out anything you need. I spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out how I could control the punch of the bass and avoid killing the rest of my band:) It was actually a very easy process - I just took away my habit of boosting EQ and the bass sings all by itself. With a bit of tube grit and the tone knob halfway up, it is the perfect P bass. I just can't find the words to describe the zing and punch this thing has.

It's early days but I am very very happy. After losing my old AC the other week (this is still going through a claims process), Jimmy went out of his way to get this bass to me fast - which is just world class service in my opinion. The reputation Alleva Coppolo has built in the bass world is well founded. I have a band rehearsal tonight and I'll then post some pictures.

I spoke with Jimmy (and Brian at the LowEnd) about that one as well and was very tempted. Got somethin else up my sleave though (if it works out).
I hear you can't tell it from brand new. Love that color.

Thanks guys! It's funny how an instrument can just speak to you. The Orange Sadowsky did, as well as my beloved gold LM5. When I saw this one, I knew I was in trouble:D


Brian is shipping it out two day on Monday.

Hey Ken,
Congrats on the buy, I was lucky enough to get an LG-5, CAO with an Indian Rosewood neck, done in Nitro, and it is the most even sounding bass I have ever had in my life.
The rosewood is different from the maple, but in a cool way, my feeling is the rosewood is more even across the entire board, and still is able to growl.
Can't explain all of the differences in words, but I am sure you will enjoy this to the max, I can't put mine down.
And, +1 about Jimmy, very cool guy, his energy and vibe are very much in each bass.

Hey Ken and Tendollarcat,

Congrats to you both! Ken, I spoke to Jimmy about that bass right after it was completed. He had that one and a sunburst LG sans pickguard on the site. I asked him about both of them and he said the sunburst was nice but the green one just sounds old. It will be that lovely 60's mojo for you! :bassist:
