I think that is his old bass (and Mike's).

Seems to be a great bass. Congrats!

I've got serious issues - I did some TB research AKA stalking:ninja:

Originally purchased by Tommix 10/10/07
Sold/traded to Mikebass 1/30/08
Tom bought/traded it back at some point
Tom Sold/traded it to Simonpoez 9/10/08
Simonpoez traded to Youngs 10/24/08

It is pretty scary what you can find out on this site!

In any case it's on it's way to me now, and I hope it is great instrument and stays with me forever.

I do wonder why this particular one has been used as the hot potato...

That is a KILLER bass. I had the pleasure of spending a bit of time with it when Mike had it. NOTHING wrong with that bass AT ALL. I actually had dibs on it when Mike had it, thinking he would never sell it. When he decided to flip it (still not sure why..he loved that bass), I had just bought another Sadowsky NYC and was tapped out.

I think you will dig it. I believe Mike put a tort guard on it, but I actually preferred the original black guard that was on it when Mike got it. Either way, KILLER bass... plenty of growl and punch, nice weight, plays great!

Congrats!

I am pretty sure that's the bass and both Tommix in his FS thread way back and Youngs FS thread say it's Old Growth Honduran Rosewood Fretboard. That was my mistake..

Whatever it is, it's one of the nicest RW boards I've seen. It's not that stupid expensive stuff, but it's really dark and sounds and feels great!

Here's a picture of it (in a pile with a bunch of other J's) at a GTG we did at my house earlier this year. It's a BEAUTY!!!

Thanks for that!

Maybe Tom can elaborate if it has a standard board or if it was old growth with an upcharge of some kind.

In any case I just went back and read the 4 page thread Mikebass started when he got the bass.

Now I am like a little kid on Xmas eve!

That board is primo. You can see how much darker and richer looking it is than the Sadowsky to the right with the Madagascar RW, which is very red (and nice also).

I think you will dig this a lot!

Hi

When I first contacted Jimmy about building me a bass he was out of delbergia. He was pushing me to try the hundurian ( which is now unavailable I believe) It was a upcharge but not nearly as much as what the delbergia is getting.

If you didn't buy that bass I'd be playing it today, meaning I had a appointment to check it out.Just because it's in Boston and I've heard its a nice bass.Plus it would be a excuse to meet more people (Young).

Well your welcome to give me a call whenever you get down to Long Island, I owe you one!

Sorry I missed this earlier....It is Old growth Honduran and was a $250 up charge I think. It is the most even 5 I have ever played and is the reason Jimmy is building me an LG5 like my standard right now with one of the last Dalbergia boards left. I originally sold it to fund my Standard 4 and then bought it back from Mike when he sent me a PM before he sold it on the open market. Unfortunately for me I got it in the middle of getting a bunch of other stuff and had to sell it soon after knowing that I had the LG5 being built. My logic was if the LG5 I had coming was anywhere near as good I was golden anyway. I will not say why Mike sold it to me as I will let him do so if he chooses. I sold it to Simon and he was looking for a 4 if memory serves. To be totally honest I would not mind having her back at all but I have got to make some room for what I have coming now first! (I just got Sadowsky number 27 a little while ago!) Do not let her history worry you one, bit I have no doubt that with a good setup she will be as good or better than anything you have ever had your hands on. You will love her! Here are a couple of pics when I had her, notice how much redder the board was then, the last time I saw her the wood had cured a bit and was a great deal darker than when she was new:

I know the up charge on the Honduran was $250 and the Dalbergia was up to $1500 when I last checked. I am not sure if he has any left now though!

FWIW I love my 4 but really need the 5! I am going to go forward with selling the 4 and have sent out a couple of PMs to some of you guys. She is a MONSTER! Drop me a PM if you are interested in details.

Here is a link to my last for sale thread with some more pics and some info:

More on the rosewood boards...

Jimmy now also has access to some rosewood that is his standard (non-upcharge) type of rosewood, BUT, was old in the 70's and much of which is particularly nice and some, if not much, also pretty dark. This is what my bass will have on it, and he assures me it will be great.

Check out this cool surf green LG5 available at the lowend:

I've just never been fan of these solid non-metallic colors at all. I love the candies and LPB, harvest gold, etc., and also the naturals and bursts where the wood shows, but colors like this one, fiesta red, etc., have just never done it for me at all. FWIW anyhoo.

Sweet bass, Peter.......hope it works out for you.....wow..........almost 1,200 post and no part 5 yet...............I know we are a small club, but dang, have the mods forgotten about us..........?
